I assume you are using DS4, so would like to ask do you experience right analog drift? Especially with character editing, camera is constantly drifting off screen.

naw i have my deadzone to 0.02 on Undermine 0 drift. Xbox makes **** controllers even the 360 pad had bad issues compared to the DS4 pad.

Ps4 DS4 Built for fighters
Xbox1 controller built for shooters
Damn, my DS4 is either faulty or some random issues are simply popping up.

d-pad all the way

With fighters, you generally want to go with a D-pad. With SoulCalibur, I think you can get by fine for the most part with a control stick, based on how I remember playing SC2 a lot on the GameCube.

For what it's worth, I play on an arcade stick. You don't need an arcade stick. It isn't inherently better than a controller. I got it for 6-button fighters, because I wanted all the buttons in a row and was annoyed at using my thumb for 4 buttons and then two fingers for the remaining buttons on the shoulder.

i cant speak for anyone else, but my $200 stick has taken far more abuse than my 360-style controllers. it's basically outlived 2 regular controllers, and the only problem i've ever had is that i kinda dont like the square gate that the stick came with.

when it comes to sticks, you need to shop around, and check out reviews of the components. there are a bunch of sticks out there that are overpriced garbage.

If your stick has Sanwa lever, you can replace with 8 way gate plate.

It really help to confirm diagonal directions (1,3,7,9).

I think it comes with 4/8 gate. It is also convenient to use 4 way for like Tetris or PacMan.
So better not slow away.

If your stick does not have Sanwa lever, I think most of the case you can replace.

For first time purchase fight stick, I'd recommend MayFlash F300 Elite or F500 Elite. It's about half price of famous makers stick but supported many platforms.

Elite version has Sanwa parts.

oh i know, it's like no more than $8 for an octagonal gate for me. my stick actually has a HAYABUSA stick and levers, but those are compatable with the sanwa format. i have a hori real arcade pro 4 kai.

I've only ever known 2 people who used analog sticks and it was literally because they were giants and had massive hands.

I usually play this on the Wii U with my grandmother. Only on motion controls.

Thank you kindly, Sire. Link me your finest that I may render judgement. I think the following should suffice, behold the grandeur:

-HORI Real Arcade Pro
-Sega Dreamcast Agetec with Seimitsu parts
-Namco Playstation with an adapter
-Virtua Stick High Grade

The power of arcade sticks is mine!

Edit: I'm thinking of modifying them with a new PCB either with a brook retro board or with the brook universal fight borad to have PS3 functionality.

Thats my fight stick, built in the amazon cardboard box it came with.
the thing with sticks is this, you are never meant to hit the 'gate' you are meant to play around inside it, and if you are doing that correctly, there is no amount of abuse or durability problems even with a cardboard enclosure.

my stick is built with a zero delay, now one moron, and the only person I know for a fact tested it, had no idea that a 60hz monitor and a non slow mo camera is not capable of showing him response times less then 16/17ms, so there may be 1 frame of delay, or 16ms, or less, as its never, to my knowledge, been properly tested

now these things come in kits, it has a knock off stick and unbranded buttons, 8 medium 1 small, my smalls are on the sides for pinball games.
due to this being a d input device, you will need something like antimicro to translate the inputs to keyboard for some games, a negligible issue

from here you can buy 4 or 5 more buttons and make it into a hitbox, and even without muscle memory hitboxes are better than dpads to the point I would argue using one of those over low quality controllers.

you would need a 10-14 inch wide box, I have one waiting for the cardboard to give out, but the cardboard for me has held up great, it was 10~$ at a craft store.

this is one off amazon that should be big enough
https://www.amazon.com/Walnut-Hollow-Unfinished-Basswood-Keepsake/dp/B000YQIOQC/ref=sr_1_60?dchild=1&keywords=wood+Box&qid=1599716384&sr=8-60

but you can also get specifficly made kits
https://www.amazon.com/TAPDRA-Acrylic-Joystick-Replacement-Controller/dp/B07VC328HS/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=fight+stick+box&qid=1599716469&sr=8-1

personally I would rather make it myself, but to each there own.

IF you have the ability to hook a neogeo controller up to your computer with little lag,
https://youtu.be/zAT4YzVoAqU?t=347
they literally have a 4 way fight stick style "dpad" on them, this would be my number 2 pick, but I Don't have a good way to do this, and I don't have a blissbox yet

number 3 would come to 8bitdo m30, as its their best dpad and it already has a somewhat fighting game style button layout

number 4 would then go to sn30pro+ if you aren't using the dpad, or you can mod it to work well.

I would take 4 sn30pro+ over a dualshock just because it fits my hands better than a dualshock ever did, and when I was trying to get my dualshock3 to work with my computer, I had endless bsods due to the wireless driver, if not for that, it worked flawlessly, not sure about 4 hooking it up to pc, but im just not trusting it.

you can obviously spend more on arcade components or arcade stick boards, I think the most popular 'good' one is around 100$, or it was last I checked, but if you do that, you may want to build a full on arcade setup with all the inputs you can think of to get the most out of it. personally for me though in 3d fighting games, I prefer analog sticks over d pads as I get more consistent z movements. In actual arcades, fight sticks would give me as good of movement, but putting my box on my lap or on my desk... its just not the same. its great for other games or 2d fighters, but if it's not stuck down and not moving, hitting a z movement will be a problem.

Aren't custom hitboxes banned in some tourneys like the ones in street fighter community because they use "alternative inputs"? I'd recommend to go for an official mixbox in that case instead because it resembles a keyboard or am I wrong? Do mixboxes have the same problem?

I think as long as it is an official hitbox with a socd cleaner it should be alright. Because otherwise people won't be able to look inside to see if you have modifications that are considered illegal for example if you don't have an SOCD cleaner inside and thus are able to press two directions at once. You could even add macros, but then again a keyboard has those features too so it's a bit contradicting to me.

Edit: Oh wait all hitboxes are considered custom for some reason. Then again as long as it has socd it should be alright even though they use analog and digital at the same time. They're legal, but it could lead to hurt feelings. Then again I've never used one so I have no clue. And keyboards and mixboxes are disliked too.

The Hitbox being legal or not is irrelevant unless you decided to go pro even then, if you get an official one the issue is gone unless they outright ban the use.
