drm is in every modern video game its just in different formats
Steam is DRM jesus christ. It’s just the most consumer friendly version.
However, the rumor about having only a barebones of characters to choose from without paying to unlock more characters does have plenty of merit.
Let's not forget what happened to the Street Fighter series...
I'm sure the ones defending their current practices would defend that, too.
If this happens and you even have a week of play in, Steam will give you a refund on this game due to the lack of clear labels on their DRM. That also happened with Tekken 7.
But gaming is a major luxury. If people won't buy the product because of it, and economic status in the world overall, these companies won't even sell a copy and hackers will break the DRM, getting all the stuff free. So piracy is having a massive impact as well, just more so than ever. It's always been a problem but holy crap, I was looking at figures for a game design on concept art side of things and the amount of stolen assets, art, not just the game, it's ridiculous. Many of our favorite games show up on other platforms like phones in a watered down version of stolen assets and tossed together actual cash grabs. But end of the day, is the luxury worth it? On a platform like steam where we buy at massive discount, you get IAP and pay 60 bucks if you wait for not even that long. Maybe 6 months? Cracked by then. Devs could just remove it like Bethesda did on Doom and give away the DLC, pissed everyone off, but it's gotten the game more sales by doing so. Sort of feels like if you buy a game now and pay for the DLC you're getting a wallet drain and early access. Bug fixes and such, and DRM hacked 6 mo later, pirates get the fixed game with free everything. So I see why people are hacking, but for people that don't wait like myself, vs a friend of mine in Mexico that I buy ames FOR since he pirates everything and complains about the DRM, i sometimes wonder if people complain about the DRM because they were going to get it free (he has a steam account) or the problems with the DRM itself. But again, back to luxury, if you want to do it honestly and keep the "system" alive and those companies games, you pay a heafty price now. Pirates enjoy it, but were never a customer to begin with, so I dislike the DRM, but if one may have bought it and it was easy to torrent, they cannot. So perhaps it will help the game, the developers just better damn well make a good one worth that cost, as we have so many other games that have no drm and sell just fine. But they are good, good games. Others have DRM and are just as awesome, most w it are not that great and shove micros down your throat.
I sort of am at an odd stance on the industry now, but I think i'm going to be sticking with my massive library of ld games and play lan and stuff. The industry will hopefully survive and I'd hope to see new titles like SC coming out to jump on, but right next to DoA with microtrans all the way and no reason for it. DoA is just horrible about it and doesn't care, but you can just only buy the one costume you want right? Even though it's in that 60.00 game you bought. So it depends on many factors, and people should probably really look at the games and not just buy everything that's new. The industry was great back on GCN/Xbox/PS2, still hung in there next gen and was awesome gen prior, before that it was just still sort of gaming and not the huge industry it is now. But we didn't buy every game imaginable. Over steams years i've amassed 1200 games. I don't think I really need to buy another game again and visuals havent reallyt amped things that much for me to say hey, Soul Calibur 2 llooks horrible and I need an update. Even 3DS monster Hunters are still just as if not more entertaining that World. World is beautiful, but it isn't like holy crap how did I play this like 64/PSX days lol. 3D i'm talking about. This is subjective, however, but I guess I agree on the stance the TC is making (though seemingly salty or trolling) but also seeing the games we could have if they were supplied income.. I'd have to look at Team Ninja's financial status before even getting DoA 6 because of how 5 was handled. If they are making money, where are the PC collections of Ninja Gaiden? I'd buy those over buying costumes that could just be unlockables to let me get more outta the game playtime. Put them behind challenges.
