How good is the customization in this game?
I'm seeing a lot of images online of different movie characters made in the customization, and kinda want to buy it purely for it (although I'll definitely enjoy the fighting)

Garbage lot's of the costumes are just ripped from older Soul Cal games and even that is lacking how lazy they were with it.....
It's amazing compared to all other fighting games, but atm it's pretty crappy compared to the earlier installments. It's gonna get better with the item pack DLC's, but right now it's really lacking.

Right now is kind of disappointing. But there is at the very least 2 upocoming DLCs that will add customization stuff.

They cut off 257 customization item from SCV.
If you want more just pay deluxe version but seasonpass say +100 customization part not equivalent to SCV.

It's fantastic if you have any sort of imagination but yeah...it could do with an injection of new items and armor.

Not as good as SCV but its still alright.

Number of part at the moment is less than SCV. However, painting sticker on a character is more flexible than SCV. Furthermore, the official is going to add more unannounced creation parts later. So the customization will be better.

Even now I can create a lot of crazy character customization such as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mario, Luigi, Loki, German Empire, Russia, Prussia, Mein Fuehrer, Uncle Stalin, Trump, Micky mouse, and so on.

Really nice customization!

If you want to make cute/sexy females then it's kinda disappointing. Only a few faces to choose from, very few hairstyles, and most outfit pieces are crap. (only a few good ones)

The customization is awesome. It's somewhat disappointing in one particular department (only one among other awesome departments) when compared to SC4 and SC5, but when compared to pretty much any other fighting game on (or soon to be on) the market like Tekken 7, DoA6 or MK11, SC6 is so far ahead it's ridiculous. Beware, every time someone is bashing SC6 customisation, that's purely due to SC4 and SC5 comparisons. If you never played those, don't even bother with complaints.
You can modify any existing character or create a new one from scratch, with a new character you can choose your race (human, lizardman, skeleton, angel, demon, automaton, living statue, etc.) and your gender, you can also modify different body parts to make them average/muscular/fat, boob slider included, you can also modify how tall your character is. You can choose different hairstyles, most races allow you to choose a face from a list of pre-made faces. There is a voice selector with different voice modifiers. You can create costumes from a large variety of parts from different categories (underwear, socks, hats, masks, shirts, pants skirts, belts, shoulder pads, arm accessories and so on), you can mix and match different parts in different categories together. You can recolor everything from your character's eyes to buttons on their coat to their weapon's air trails, you can also apply different texture patterns and tattoos/stickers on pretty much anything.
The only thing people currently complain about is that there are not too much clothing items to choose from in each item category, which is underwhelming, but it also is not a fundamental flaw, since more items can and will be added with future DLCs.

Compared to most games, the customization is this game is pretty great. You get a good number of options and there's a lot you can do. They're also adding more with the DLC and all of the fighting styles in the game are available for custom characters.

Complaints come in because previous games had more variety, but if they keep adding parts, SC6 could have the best character customization out there.

Its pretty amazing what people can do with the limited options available at present. These options should improve once they release the 100 additional armor parts. The caveat of course is you have to pay for the season pass. But if your creative and willing to think outside the box you can create some cool characters in the cas. You can browse what other people have done as well.
I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they tried.. but I just can't. There are a ton of things about the creation aspect of this game that are inferior to the previous titles. It's still one of the best character creators for people who don't like skyrim/fallout modding or Black Desert Online..But, if you've played soul calibur 5, very little about SC6's character creation is new, better, or different. Things like sticker placement and sticker image quality are severely lacking this go around. Also the creation equipment options available are extremely limited. I detailed a lot of the issues that I had with the creation portion of the game (not all), in my review.

Man, half these people don't recall how limited SCIV and SCV customization was when they launched.

I want to say they ultimately tripled the amount of CAS content in SCV from launch to when dev support ended in 2016, mostly thru the free items granted in the 'compatability' packs that allowed people that didn't purchase any DLC to see content made with DLC.
There was also a fair amount of random free content handed out as well as neat TEKKEN (and maybe some iDOLM@STER stuff too iirc?) crossover stuff.

2B came with more than just 2B and Neir items, she also came with the halter top bikini, officer's uniform, and school swimsuit, which iirc was given to everybody. Sad as this game's state is compared to other fighters, it's still pretty young, and still has the opportunity to turn around like For Honor and TEKKEN did.

IIRC For Honor sat at 1000-1500 players for like 6 months and now sits at an average 7000. It took a couple years and some TLC from the devs though.

I have faith Project Soul will put forward the TLC needed to keep this game going, and ultimately give us the content we so desperately crave. Ultimately it's up to Bamco though...
