This surprises me because in soul calibur 3, I thought of him as top tier, along with taki and raphael.
The only thing I hate about his latest iteration is that his classic go-to vertical strike combo ends in an uninterruptible/switch-uppable reversal edge with a slow charge.
Old habits make it infuriating for me. But I'm getting used to it now.
But personally I find mitsurugi to have one of the best combinations of speed and reach. The only reason I can see for people not loving him in general is that he doesn't have a lot of easily accessed combos just by mashing on the basic attack buttons.
To be really deadly with mitsurugi requires doing specific moves which does make him a good deal harder to use than quite a few other characters.
Yeah that really ruined him for me. In the latest patch I read you can hold Guard to cancel the third RE move if your not in the middle of it yet. Not sure if that's enough to make me want to go back to him though.
You can convert it into one of his stances, I believe, by holding A after the second vertical attack.
What's your most useful move out of his whole list? For me, if I had to nominate an mvp, it'd probably be the sidestep + B, rib ripper I think its name is.
Either that or the very simple stab with > . A+B. It does so much damage for how easy it is to get off.
But I'm feeling like I'm not using some of his most useful moves right now, I'm just not sure which ones they are.
I played with mitsu since release until a few months ago...
and I can say combos are really easy and combo damage is pretty good and I think after updates it got better (fixed some combo damage)
what I think he is lacking is his mixup, a lot of pleople say that mitsurugi's mix up is great, yoshimitsu is way better at that
without considering his stances (which are not hard to understand) he is one of the most "intuitive characters" to play with imo
