Seems like people don't like Mitsurugi..Why?
Is there any consensus on why he's so disliked? Or is it just he's not anyone's favorite?

He's been my favorite since soul calibur 3 when I won several tournaments using him exclusively.

Anyone want to group up for some matches so I can maybe convince you he's not nearly as bad or limited as people seem to think?

never heard of him being disliked. Is this really a thing?

I like Mitsu a lot, he replaced Yun as my main when he wasn't around in 5. My friends that play SoulCalibur like him as well. Were are all these people that dislike him?

Yeah, check out his tier rating! People are just generally unimpressed with him, I rarely come up against him in my online matches and he is very infrequently used as a main.

This surprises me because in soul calibur 3, I thought of him as top tier, along with taki and raphael.

The only thing I hate about his latest iteration is that his classic go-to vertical strike combo ends in an uninterruptible/switch-uppable reversal edge with a slow charge.

Old habits make it infuriating for me. But I'm getting used to it now.

But personally I find mitsurugi to have one of the best combinations of speed and reach. The only reason I can see for people not loving him in general is that he doesn't have a lot of easily accessed combos just by mashing on the basic attack buttons.

To be really deadly with mitsurugi requires doing specific moves which does make him a good deal harder to use than quite a few other characters.

Only thing I really hate him for, is his stupidily quick ce

Seemed to me the crowd who is meta obsessed was convinced that rugi wasn't worth a second look. Maybe that crowd and the steam crowd don't intersect as much.

Yeah that really ruined him for me. In the latest patch I read you can hold Guard to cancel the third RE move if your not in the middle of it yet. Not sure if that's enough to make me want to go back to him though.

The way I've worked around it is that I am super conscientious about making sure I only hit it twice before going to a different attack.

You can convert it into one of his stances, I believe, by holding A after the second vertical attack.

What's your most useful move out of his whole list? For me, if I had to nominate an mvp, it'd probably be the sidestep + B, rib ripper I think its name is.

Either that or the very simple stab with > . A+B. It does so much damage for how easy it is to get off.

But I'm feeling like I'm not using some of his most useful moves right now, I'm just not sure which ones they are.

yes. he was designed to be the average everyone else is graded on. mitsurugi is a very solid mid-tier, and a knowledgable one can be very hard to deal with.

Haven't played since 4 and I am having similar issues but I am slowly learning his new kit and I'm getting more comfortable with him, the holding the second vertical slash lets you transition into mist stance which gives you more options.

I played with mitsu since release until a few months ago...

and I can say combos are really easy and combo damage is pretty good and I think after updates it got better (fixed some combo damage)

what I think he is lacking is his mixup, a lot of pleople say that mitsurugi's mix up is great, yoshimitsu is way better at that

without considering his stances (which are not hard to understand) he is one of the most "intuitive characters" to play with imo

cant he in-stance cancel from a low-mid-break-unblockable? i mean, granted that thing has windup, but from the right range you're forced to defend and guess.
Habaduba Apr 2, 2019 @ 4:52am
I mean , he is kinda booring to play against, and babyface as a whole has a meh design. Also the ability to RO from lows and mids probably adds to that a lot. Its not a surprise ppl are pissed if a low is tracking and hits for a real chunk, also probably the best CE in the game that often gets just mashed out at stupid times and viola. The fact his SCH is basically - Hello there, Now your raw 50/50 deals an absurd amount of damage and you have mentall frame advantage so it can potentially go unpunished... enjoy.

Mitsurugi is an "orthodox" character. A believable and realistic ronin. And this in a certain way make him kinda boring compared to all the other over the top characters.
