Online fighting is so boring
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best at this game and that I'm very low tier. But I think everyone should probably agree that anyone, regardless of rank, who spams the same move over and over again is just annoying. Things like that are one of the reasons I hate playing online. That and the fact that despite choosing to only search for 4 bar connections, I get people who lag all over the place. Am I the only one suffering from this? I'd like to try and get better and play against people online yet the amount of people who spam the same move discourage me

Spamming is annoying, yes, but most people don't spam. If lots of people are spamming against you, it's probably because it works against you. Spammers should be easily punished. The smart ones will stop spamming after being consistently punished, the dumb ones will just lose altogether.

Again, idc if it works against me because I’m bad at the game. I care that people choose to spam. It’s just lazy

also be sure that its not just your game that is lagging, when i had my settings and resolution on high it lagged my game quite a bit/inconsistently. lag can let people get away with more than they should and people will be more inclined to spam in lag.

I tested by turning settings all the way down and people still lagged in my game. Idc about specific moves people use. I’m concerned people choose to spam as their method of winning. It’s boring and lazy.

not learning how to counter spam is just as lazy. perhaps worse because you're willfully refusing, demanding other people change how they play to suit your tastes.

"Doing one move or sequence over and over and over is a tactic close to my heart that often elicits the call of the scrub. This goes right to the heart of the matter: why can the scrub not defeat something so obvious and telegraphed as a single move done over and over? Is he such a poor player that he can’t counter that move? And if the move is, for whatever reason, extremely difficult to counter, then wouldn’t I be a fool for not using that move? The first step in becoming a top player is the realization that playing to win means doing whatever most increases your chances of winning. That is true by definition of playing to win. The game knows no rules of “honor” or of “cheapness.” The game only knows winning and losing."

"A common call of the scrub is to cry that the kind of play in which one tries to win at all costs is “boring” or “not fun.” Who knows what objective the scrub has, but we know his objective is not truly to win. Yours is. Your objective is good and right and true, and let no one tell you otherwise. You have the power to dispatch those who would tell you otherwise, anyway. Simply beat them."

If it works, there is nothing wrong with it. Block, and punish. Teach them that spamming gets them beat, then they stop it. Why stop if its working for them? They are having fun, and winning with it. Would you abandon a tactic that is getting you wins?

Interesting how you have no opinions for yourself except to copy and paste from a low-tier blog post lol.

I didn't say there is anything wrong with it. I said its boring. And I don't spam, so I would abandon a tactic that requires to spam.

this is not a low-tier blog post, it's a published book from an expert in the field that was made available for free.

"Playing to Win has been the competitive gamer's bible since the year 2000. It's been linked on far too many gaming sites to count. Ultimately, it's about continuous self-improvement and getting rid of hangups that get in the way of you winning."

it's not that i dont have my own opinion, its the matter of wasting time paraphrasing that whole thing. sirlin is of the some opinion i am.

Other are wrong and i am right... Wondering who is the scrub...

Competitive is good because it's the fastest way for people to improve.
Competitive is bad because it kills weaks.
Best way is always in the middle (balance).

probably not the guy laying out the very definition of scrub for you.

did you notice the quotation marks? those are not my words. unless you are over 30, that guy was winning SF2 tournaments when you were in short pants. i'm pretty sure he knows what a scrub is.

this is going to sound harsh, but are you so poor a player you cannot defeat the same move repeated over and over?

if you want to get better, why not start by countering that move? you dont even have to do it online, just go into training and set the dummy to repeat that move.

here's the thing about this game, despite how many moves there are, there are only a few that are very useful in any given situation. for example, most of the time you're looking for your fastest, safest move.

once you have that down, you learn how to follow up on that. that's a good foundation for the next step, learning your matchup vs. the rest of the cast. which of your options defeat THEIR fastest, safest, moves.

as for lag, that's a given in any online game. in addition, namco's "bars" system is insufficaiat to accurately measure connection stability. you've just got to roll with the punches, there.
Yes it’s frustrating to me. But overall is BORING. Like, it’s just annoying to look at when people have to spam. And I can try and counter, but I don’t learn on the spot like that. And people use different characters online so it’s not always the same person.

And it sucks that the online system for connecting people seems to be so poor.

People use the same thing on you because it works. If they want them to change it up, force them to change it up. That's on you for the match being boring.

Don't get annoyed at these people. Be grateful to them. They're teaching you yet another form of cheese that you have absolute control over.

Against cheese, it's not up to them if you win, it's up to you. And I'd rather be in control of my losses then have no idea what I could have done.

Cheese is annoying because it's easy to do but difficult to counter but it's just part of evolving past low-tier to learn to defeat it. Almost all cheese in soul calibur is best defeated by a simple mechanic, guard impact.

Most other cheese can be defeated by sidestepping.

And it's pretty 'low IQ' to just brush off what that person said to you. It's true, a person will only use one move repetetively if you prove to them that you are unable to defend against it. When I notice a person always fails to block low, I start throwing out low attacks until they either wake up or lose.

Are you really going to try to argue that noticing a weakness and exploiting it is a 'low IQ' way to play the game? Because it sounds like the definition of intelligence to me.

Do you really expect to hand them the key to defeating you, and then have them not use it, based on the honor system?

Just do as I said above, and as you encounter cheese, use it as an opportunity to shore up your game by learning how to not be vulnerable to it.

I'm not grateful to people who fight online spamming. I don't find any value in that. Maybe you do, and thats perfect for you. Don't impart that on me.

Its not low IQ of to tell someone their advice is both not needed and not true. He stated "it is your fault they spam" which just isn't true. I don't have my hands on the opponents controller. If they choose to be low-skill and spam, thats on them.

Its a way to win the game. its not a demonstration of skill to "exploit a weakness." The same way glitching in multiplayer games is "exploiting a weakness" in the games coding. Not a demonstration of skill and is low IQ.

I'm not going to listen to anything you say to do because I didn't ask for help.
