Favorite design
1. SB and SC1 characters
Least Favorite design
1. Groh (what is this futuristic emo organization doing in my SC?)
2. Inferno/Abyss (Namco's fiery turd endbosses aren't avoiding this list. Soul Edge was fine)
3. Azwel (A factory line villain with a factory line plot. Had the chance to be a bit fleshed out (what were all those experiments?). In-game he's a well done personality, but I'm thinking of the character at the drawing board)
4. Setsuka (Uninspired and I hate smartass sword-unsheath fighting styles)
5. Inferno again.
Favorite to play
Kilik (if this was back in SC1-2, before the move pruning of 3 and 6, that has left all SC's characters feeling like bombshelter ruins)
Maxi (always comfy af, even as moves go missing from outside his core, even after the increased clunkiness of SC3 onward)
Asta (gives you the real SC experience of a distance game)
Yoshi (always liked Yoshi for being more mobile than your ordinary character and the ability to be an idiot. But when I started in SC6, I hated every character including Yoshi)
Least Favorite to play
Talim (not because of her range and how it makes neutral daunting - its her moves and commands)
Zasalamel (boring, I feel I'm missing something as a character)
Raphael (barely played him, and I try to play generically, which of course sucks)
Nightmare (fighting style 2strange4me ever since he splintered from Sieg)
Favourite to face
Ivy (the game of getting towards Ivy is the unsung best part of any fighting game)
Mina (her ranged game might be stronger than Ivy's, but as the opponent it's not as...epic)
Nightmare (NM players have pretty short movesets, and it's comfy playing against that. The most hated character is actually the most learning-friendly)
Least Favourite to face
Not sure? Voldo and Xianghua have (or had) bad vortexes. Talim and Raphael are opponents I still haven't honestly paid attention to, but doing worse in those matches doesn't equal disliking them at all.
Others (Geralt excluded because he's a great addition to this game) are mostly in the grey zone with Xianghua, Kilik, Raphael, Groh, Azwel, Mi-na, Talim being my most hated characters.
As for my least favorite characters (to fight):
Groh, just feels a little too good to me right now and soul charge makes him scarier than pretty much anyone else in the game with all that free pressure he gets.
Xianghua: Fought a couple of really oppressive X players who could auto GI lethal hit combo me any time I didn't get a counter hit combo on them, I'll figure her out someday but for now I still fear every X player I see.
Sophitia, Everything that looks like I might be able to punish ends up not being a punish and I'm still terrible at reading half her moves.
I like facing Mitsurugi because (in my experience at least) Mitsurugi mains tend to have a pretty honest and fair way of playing. It's very rare for me to face a Mitsu who spams RE's or CE's and the like. Never once had a Mitsu rage quit on me and so on.
The character itself also doesn't have that many cheap moves, and is just less frustrating overall to fight than many of the others. Not saying he's weak though, I often get my ass kicked by Mitsu players, but extremely rarely in a way that makes me go "Oh come on, that's such BS."
Most favourite
1. Azwel
Really liking his summoned swords gimmick, and was in a pretty good spot in 1.10. While his spear moves felt pretty situational, I just like the fact that his fighting style is usable in CaS which probably allows for more CaSes that otherwise wouldn't even be a thing
2. Geralt
Common sense dictates that you shouldn't main a guest, but here I am playing him a lot more frequently because he's so fun that you'll forget that a guest character's first appearance is often their last.
3. Mitsurugi
Overall pretty decent with his Katana. In terms of power, agility and reach, I'd say there's a lot to love about the all-rounder. Also helps that my Mitsurugi CaS is Indrick Boreale
4. Nightmare/Siegfried
These characters are tied for No 4. Pretty heavy hitters, though I do like how Bandai Namco did their movelists in that they control like how you'd expect a giant sword to control in a fighting game, while also not being overpowered.
5. Voldo
I really don't play him enough tbh, though what I do like his contortionist fighting style and the stances associated with it
Least favourite
1. Azwel
Yes, he's my most AND least favourite character. Probably my fault for growing too attached to my Yukari Yakumo CaS, but damn. Bandai Namco really kicked him around like... an old man. I guess it's a good thing i've been playing a fair bit of Mitsurugi, Geralt, Groh, Cervantes, Siegfried and Nightmare before 1.11
2. 2B
This is more of personal experience more than anything and i guess the fact that she's an android from the future is kind of off-putting when (Thankfully, i haven't encountered a 2B NPC in Libra... yet). Balance-wise, I guess she's in a pretty good place since Bandai Namco did a fairly decent job at keeping true to her source material's fighting style without being OP. However, having been a fan of Geralt as of recently, i often crumble at the face of a 2B match.
3. Seong Mi-Na
Another case of "annoying but otherwise balanced", I really don't think Seong Mi-Na will ever outgrow her notorious 1B spam even when considering that there are ways to counter a good player.
4. Xianghua
Getting mid-air juggled in a game like SoulCalibur is really the funnest thing ever[/sarcasm]. I've gotten a few Xianghua players under my belt, but it doesn't make it any less annoying to fight.
5. Inferno
While i haven't fought any Infernos in Ranked, the fact that people are hacking the game to do so really shows that he needs to be reworked around being playable in online matches.
