It's a meme spouted by Ivy mains.
I guarantee you none of these scrubs could beat Ivy for a single match out of 100.
See the post above me for instance, that guy isn't even ranked.
you are talking about me fella? funny, cause i am in a ranked.
That said she has decreased options close range with how much of her kit is tailored to hitting far away opponents. She still has potent options, she's simply not a full character while the opponent is in her face. Her unblockable command throw is still a throw and can be ducked, and it basically requires a 720 input, so the opponent either has to mask it by doing it after a poke(which should leave her negative, so she can be poked out of it), or you'll likely notice some odd movement.
I got nothing on the GI super, that's legit good stuff.
Giving characters range and speed is a mistake to me. To me the developers are underestimating how powerful having longer reach is.
Longer range means easier and more predictable GIs. Predictability is a VERY dangerous thing in this game.
Fixed that for you.
All memes aside what you should do in the ivy match up is more or less dependent on your character. I'm not going to debate if Ivy is good or not but you have to be 100% focused and aware when you fight her.
Close ranged characters have to mix up running and block and have to know if a attack is bad on block or not. They also should know Ivy's defensive options [8wayrun.com]. Which they are AA, 3K and 214B. Even -2 all Ivy can do against a i12 2A is trade with 3K.
Medium range characters are more or less like close ranged except that have a easier time getting in but a harder time staying in. I don't actually know a medium ranged vs ivy match up but I'd imagine they want to keep ivy in their attack range, may it be up close or the edge of the blade to interrupt her attacks, while she tries to escape both ranges.
Also I think Ivy is one of the more strong members of the cast. Annoying but we gotta deal with it.
She has so much punishable stuff. :/
In playing Ivy my super has gotten stuffed multiple times...tho when I do mirrors against Ivy's their super can't seem to get stuffed, so heh.
But speaking of which, Ivy mirror is shall we say...interesting.
But sure Ivy can be dificult...but at the same time, rushing her down she doesn't have a lot to respond with.
I'm not sure what the horizontal guard break you refer to tho.
Umm, there's no such thing as crouching to dodge a mid. That's literally the purpose of a mid is to hit crouching opponents lmao.
