I appreciate you taking time out of your day to try and help people understand but they're not going to listen in all honesty. The people hating and ranting will always have some bs/typical excuse and most console players on here just want the pc version to fail, so it's not really going to help much :/
Most of the people on this forum QQing about tira or denuvo are just here till the game releases. Y'know, the same sort of trash that the steam forums wind blows from game hub to game hub. They have nothing better to do while waiting for their roblox temp ban to expire. Just ignore them. THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE FANTASTIC!!!!!
Most anti-SCVI people here are just here to antagonize others. I mean, some of them keep telling us to move on and that we have too much free time but yet they are still here antagonizing threads left and right. It's overall just really annoying and they serve no real purpose other than being able to be reported for harrassment and etc.
This game is going to be good.
We should battle sometime when the game releases.
😋
And even if it's true, they could've taken the burden for once. After all adding her attracts more people to the game (Since she's not a MAIN character yet super popular anyway), there was no need to make her paid considering the rather low content you get for the season pass (Even counting her).
Making her free day one DLC would have been the SMART thing to do though to avoid all the inevitable and easily predictable bad press since paid day one DLC is one of the most universally loathed practices in the industry.
Okubo go her put in Day 1 because he wanted the hardcore Tira fans to know she was in the game, even if they had to purchase her. He wanted people to know that they were listening to feedback, since she wasn't even planned to be in the base roaster. She didn't have a big enough part, if any part at all, in Soul Calibur 6's story to be included in the base roaster.
No, they can't just "take the burden" and add EXTRA, non-planned, characters to the game, for no cost. That's not how development works, ESPECIALLY considering how Bandai Namco already considered SoulCalibur a dead francise.
Getting her as Paid DLC was, once again, probably one of the ONLY ways to get her put in the game. They are running everything on a new engine, and have to recreate all the characters for said engine. They can't just go around adding characters simply because they featured on one of the old Soul Calibur games, or even because they are popular. They are working with limited time, and probably a limited budget as well. They can only make characters that are actually relevent to the story, and as such, Tira wasn't featured in the base roaster, until Okubo himself went to the dev team, and went through long discussions and had developmental changes made to the game. She still wouldn't even be in the game, if not for Okubo convicing them to make a EXTRA character.
Notice how I keep saying Extra. Development for her started near/at the end of the development for the full game. I can not stress this enough, SHE WAS NOT GOING TO BE IN THE GAME AT ALL.
(Also editted into my main post)
Do you work at bandai or developed soulcalibur 6? If not, everything you're saying has no backup evidence. We don't know the 100% truth and will most likely never find out. Okubo can say whatever he wants but at end of the day, he made Tira day 1 dlc which makes it seem suspious.
Again, I'm not on either side. I'm buying it regardless.
There are absolutely people who will wait for a serious discount on this game, and/or distrust Bandai Namco as a whole because of stuff like this.
So it's not as simple as "Well, it was extra work over the planned initial content for release, the only thing they can do is charge money." The company's goodwill is part of the equation here. They are trading some of their reputation for the $5 or whatever they'll be charging for Tira.
Maybe in the short term with this one transgression it's a profitable decision, but repeatedly making decisions that people don't like probably isn't the best idea.
Characters are complex to develop in pretty much every popular fighting game, the fact that it's 3D isn't anything noteworthy really. Don't let the 3D movement and smooth animations trick you into thinking they're ultra complex when compared to 2D fighters, they both have their pros and cons when it comes to developing characters.
3 for 30 bucks when the standard character number is at minimum 6 is very meh. If you think it's worth it then more power to you (No one really gives a damn about the armors though, come on...), speak with your wallet and I'll speak with mine (Which they're pretty much forcing me to with their ridiculous regional pricing anyway).
The problem is, they're the ones who lacked foresight to realize that people were going to want Tira in the base game to begin with. She's easily one of the most unique characters in the franchise and I'd dare to say in fighting games in general (How many other fighting games feature a character with a bipolar disorder that's used as an actual MECHANIC in their moveset?).
You gotta draw a line somewhere with the number of characters, sure, but if you're going to make some sort of soft reboot like this one then you better be prepared to include pretty much all the classic characters even if they don't exactly fit the timeline (Doesn't look like they care about that as long as we pay extra for them...) precisely to prevent this kind of situation. Not having Tira planned was kind of a fatal mistake from the get-go really, and I'd be slightly more open to accept it if the season pass had more characters (You're basically paying $10 per character, any other company would've gotten tons of flak over that alone).
Bandai Namco absolutely could have taken the hit and given her to players for free, and they chose not to. They aren't some small struggling indie developer, they're a massive entertainment company. Whatever she cost to develop is pittance to them.
I'm not even bothered that she's DLC. What does bother me is she's being actively promoted a whole two months before the game is even supposed to release and is being sold alongside the game to incentivize people to buy the season pass early. It's just a sleazy way for Bamco to make some easy extra money on a series they hold in such little regard. They absolutely deserve to be scrutinized if it means they'll reconsider these types of practices and marketing going forward. (Which I know is unlikely, but it's only going to get worse if they realize they can keep prodding their players for more money)
