I am fighting an AI; I broke his guard (It went into slow-mo, he flailed backwards, etc).
...He blocked my next attack.
The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ point of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guard break if it lasts 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000005ths of a second!?
I broke the AI's guard, hit to do my special (I had a bar and a half) and nothing happened. I hit it again..nothing.
The game just decided 'Oh ♥♥♥♥! You would WIN if that worked so..no. ♥♥♥♥ you'
And then his special went through my guard.
♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥!
Because Hard = Cheating peice of lazily-coded ♥♥♥♥.
Not ignores or blocks, no. Soul Crush refuses to activate, even with 2 bars, if its use would kill the ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Edit: And Mercenaries mean NOTHING. If the game wants you to lose, your AI controlled Merc will barely attack more than once a minute and get face-pounded so they ensure doing maybe 1 hit to the enemy before you step in.
It lacks consistency but it's not neccesarily a bad mode. I'd say the good fights outweight the bad.
The whole explore mechcanic can be frustrating indeed though, just because of how little opportunity you have to react to a skilled AI and adjust after fighting so many easy fights.
Mission mode has a habit of lulling you into a pattern and then crushing you.
Edit: And yes mercs are practically useless most of the time. Then other times Ive had one beat an opponent twice its level. Seems completely random.
WTF this mode is broken
I tried travelling a long distance and died cause I forgot your hp stays where it was in the last fight and that's all on me (could have used food).. But then I retried the same route and at some point I thought oh I'm gonna use a mercenary (lvl 55) for a fight to keep my main at full health (I thought) but the mercenary fights like a half dead snail and was left with a hair of hp... at least he won I said BUT in the next fight, (lvl 16 bandit pretty easy usually) I told myself ''ok no use for the merc''.. But again I was left with the previous mercs hp ON MY MAIN CHARACTER which makes no sense.. so got killed with one strike not understanding at first what happened....
If I had known I would've used food but they don't tell you anywhere whats your hp before a fight.. So how the F could I have known
why would hp from another npc transfer on your character?? why use mercs then!!??
I saved it on video to go back and look at what happened...
I like all the other modes of this game... but THIS is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
and I've played weapon master in the older games and really enjoyed it even if at the time I couldn't create a character which for me is a + nowadays
(make all style to master level and fight against the style ancient)
I'd suggest play this mode when online match will be completely dead after SC7 or SC8 release.
Sealing astral chaos mission is fun to see random pick from online shared character.
it doesn't "cheat", you just lost
Following mod may work for you. (I've never tried though)
Libra of Soul mode at higher difficulty

I've finished always 100% soul charged Lv 85 Inferno. It was pretty tough. Last most difficult mission will be Lv 99 one.
