So far i'm like 3 4 hours in or so it's not bad but it could use more cutscenes
The soul chronicle is about 5-6 matches per character, showing you their own story. Some are pretty solid, some feel a bit weak. Which is a shame since some of the weaker ones are legacy characters...It may well be their story, but sometimes its meh. Other characters have pretty legit short stories that either make you appreciate the character more or at least expose you to more of the important lore of the franchise.
libra of souls is a fun time sink. I've probably put 4 hours into that. you have food buffs, mercanaries, gold to manage, levels and XP as well as weapons to buy. Its not an award winning RPG story, but its entertaining enough to keep you exploring the map and unlocking new challenges. Its like a grown up version of the old weapon/edge master modes in the past. Sometimes you fight 3 enemies back to back, sometimes the wind is super strong, sometimes you are poisoned, etc etc.
If you like that sort of thing you should have fun.
I don't really care about a "lack" of cutscenes. They probably would have sucked really bad, I don't mind reading and skimming if I'm not interested. I've finished probably 8 characters Soul Chronicles and unlocked stuff in India, China, KR and Japan in Libra of Souls. Still need to get over to Africa, the Middle East and Europe. So I've got some work to do.
2 single player modes: 1 for the created hero and the other for SC characters
Well if you don't like Japanese-RPG styl'ish" storyline, I would not recommend the created hero one. Since it is going to be full-text adventures and repetitive grinding just like those comments mentioned above.
Overall, I'd say that Libra of Soul is pretty alright, even if it's a long grind with little to no reward at the end of the road. Chronicles is... passable. The dialogue is 'bad translation' quality at best, and 'what the hell is this' quality at worst. The main story in Chronicles is also incredibly predictable, but... passable, I guess? I dunno. Some of the side stories like Raphael or Groh's are pretty okay, though.
I mean it's pretty good compared to most other fighters. Story gets a little borring being mostly text boxes with bad dialogue, but par for the course in genral. That being said, you should never buy a fighting game with the intention to never play multiplayer.
I fought some pretty spongey opponents when my weapon wasn't high enough level.
