I just checked Steamcharts for this game
What happened?
I may pick it up on the sale at the moment, but why did it fall off so fast?
I'll assume it will get a bump in the summer after EVO but man.

Infrequent DLC releases terrible netcode on release and mutiple other fighting games are out as well. Every time a DLC drops the player base gets a jump and it might from EVO as well. Looking at the numbers as of now they are even a little higher that nomral which I have to assume is from the sale.
Actually it's doing better right now compared to a month ago or so. All fighting games lose the vast majority of their players after a month or so.

Well, all PC fighting games. That being said, the people left are the dedicated players. I'm sure you can find someone to play with. I'm up for it, if you want.

you know, these topics from those who do not understand the PC fighting game community are stale.

There's always dropoff in fighting games, however the game has a dedicated playerbase and is getting a bump now with the golden week sale and people buying 2B.

No, I know about the PC drop off of fighting games.
This one though is much more significant then many of other similar games.

Tekken, SFV, even DBZ all have over 1000 more concurrent players.
SC4's all time peak was 14k and now only months later it's averaging 300.
Tekken never approached being under 1000 and it's peak was about the same.

I think this is a fair question about this game.

The real answer is because SC isn't a hugely popular series, which is fair, because its last truly competitive entry was SC2 and that was largely due to glitches rather than explicit design. SC5 left a bad taste in pretty much everyone's mouth with it being a complete insult to the term "3D fighter" and also doing away with a lot of fan-favorite legacy characters.

SC6 is definitely the best entry in the series so far, and I think the more competitive exposure it gets the better off it will be for it. Naturally the numbers are way lower than launch though, fighting games have no staying power for people who aren't dedicated to them.

this isnt th juggernaut that is tekken. this isnt a brand that everyone knows and loves like SF or DBZ.

compare to other fighting game releases on PC that are not tekken, SF or DBZ. take KOF. GG. BB. SC6 does not stand out at all compared to those numbers.

and again, these topics have been coming up since launch. they are stale.

Could be just what we think. Ppl drop it because the game play is weird and hard, plus novices get punish with having to watch their characters get destroyed with lengthy and flashy cutscenes, get tripped by repetitive RE and humiliated with armor breaks... Takes heart to stay.

In summary, it is a game that requires above average time to learn and punishes hard when you don't. Perhaps people are opting for "lighter" experiences.

For me it is great though.

Horrible matchmaking in the beginning, they "fixed" it but it might have been too late everyone has already abandoned ship

I'd love to buy and play this game but they won't remove the bundled malware.

So how is the online? Does anybody play it still? But with low numbers like these the only reason I'd bother to buy it is for 2b and even then im still on the fence with numbers that low.
Alex Darkcrowne May 2, 2019 @ 10:49pm
Yeah, people still play online. Most of us are in Ranked, since that's basically the Quick Play option. With good internet, won't take a minute to find a match.

At least it's not doing as bad as DoA 6 lol
