I hate the whole guest character schtick so much, but this sucks even for that.
At this point, we can only hope that Haohmaru means the other SC characters will be better. Since season 1 was half characters built from other characters and half characters who actually have their own moves (not that 2B belongs in the game at all), maybe Haohmaru will take one of those low-effort slots and we get two proper SC characters this time instead of just one. I'm guessing Rock will be the other low-effort design fart. Hopefully Yun-seong will finally come and the last character will be something worthwhile (god please not Necrid). Am a little concerned that season 1 being all pedobait girls means S2 will go all broforce and Setsuka is off the table for another year (possibly ever).
That, and I just don't think they've got it in them to do well on design and make a mage work. Past examples say "no".
For example:
Tachibana Ukyo
Yagyu Jubei
Both are very iconic samurai character yet more differentiate than Haohmaru
For less popular option if you think we have enough pretty faces:
Earthquake
Wan-Fu
Another issue with Haohmaru is that he provided the basis for Mitsurugi's character, so expect something along the lines of a P2 skin. As a guest character
I don't know a single person who plays Samurai Showdown.
Bushido Blade needs a revival. It was fun as hell.
