最近まではほぼ無料でプレイできていましたが、仕様変更によって無料ではゲーム設定や盤面の変更ができなくなりました。どうやら課金しない場合プレイ人数は3人まで、ダイスや盗賊の設定の変更は不可能。というように仕様が変更されたようです。
そのため、最低限遊ぶには500円ほど必要になります。サーバーも弱く、たまにプレイ中にサーバーが落ちることがありますが、遠方の友人と気軽にカタンがしたいという人にはそれなりにおすすめできます。
追記：18/01/27
（上記）と思った時期が私にもありました
サーバーが貧弱過ぎてまともにプレイできなくなりました。応援してたのに非常に残念です。

1. 無料ではない
2. AIが人間プレイヤーの邪魔を最優先する
3. 賽の目のバラつきが期待値からかけ離れている。

10戦ほどAI相手にプレイしたが、人間プレイヤーが暫定トップ（タイ含む）になると、プレイヤーに不利な目のサイコロが出るように恣意的に操作されているよう。

1. It's not free.
2. AI prioritize to interrupt human players, rather than to win.
3. The variation of dice roll is far away from its expected probability.

I played 10+ times of standard map with AI players, and the system seems controlling the dice roll to be opponent to human player when he is temporarily top (including top-tie).

11/4のアップデートでカスタムマッチが遊べなくなりました。
・4人目のメンバーを誘うと誘ったメンバーが表示されず、ゲームが開始できない
・カスタムマッチの部屋を作成し、一度その部屋から抜けて再度カスタムマッチの部屋を作成しようとするとエラーになり、カスタムマッチを開始できない

今は購入しないのがおすすめです。
ボードゲームアリーナでカタンを遊ぶことをおすすめします。

フレンドと遊ぼうとしてカスタムマッチをやろうとするとエラー多発な上に数人誘うと最後に誘ったフレンドの名前が消えて誘えなくなったりゲーム内容など以前の問題です。修正が入るまでプレイするのも購入するのもおすすめできません。

BGAにカタンが登場したため、このゲームは役割を終えました。
AIの思考ルーチンは基本的に他人の点数は考慮せず自分の事最優先で考えトッププレーヤーの邪魔をしようという発想もないため、AIがいると毎回酷いゲームになります。
カタンの事が嫌いになりたくなければこのゲームはやらない方がいいでしょう。

この前のアップデートからゲームがまともにできないので改善されてからの購入をお勧めします。

無料とありますがもちろんゲーム内課金です
450円払えばCPUとの3-4人対戦ができます
マップをランダムにしたり勝利ポイント数の設定ができます
ただすべて英語でゲーム内マネーの購入の仕方やマップ購入が少々わかりにくかったです

オンライン関連は触っていませんのでわかりません
オフラインで練習したかったので自分は満足していますが、おすすめはできません

コンピュータの思考プログラムが練られおらず、ストレスがたまります。

例えばプレイヤー3点、コンピュータトップ8点の状況で強さがマスターレベルの
コンピュータは、3点のプレイヤーに盗賊を置いて資源を奪うことがあります。

他にも単独トップのキャラクターにも頻繁に取引が成立しています。

コンピュータ戦は時間つぶしにはいいかもしれませんが、対人戦の練習にはなりません。
