How to set up a private game

Is there a way to set up a private game between 3 or 4 players. I currently do this in PlayCatan from the game setup screen and one of the options is to enter a password. Once the game is posted my family can select the game, enter the password and press Start. I play this way with my kids who live in other states. It's a great way for us to stay connected as a family.

It looks like you need to add your family as friends, then set up a custom game choosing the friends option when adding players.
