So I am having the connection that allows me to play Dota2 without a single problem and you are telling me that is not enough?
I have until now 185 hours of playing this game and I sincerely dont believe that you have never ever encouter a bug yourself before. otherwise you are extremely lucky boy.
I'm telling you that if I try to download a game, Catan will not connect to its server at the same time. I've never really played Dota2 so I have no idea what it requires for a connection. When I play ANY online game, I try to avoid any other activity that's going to take signifcant bandwidth away.
Well that's a very trashy post from someone with 185 hours in-game. An off the cuff rage post, I guess. The only bug for me has been the brown screen bug which was fairly frequent and wouldn't allow a game to start, but I've not had one of those since January so I assume it's fixed. That's why I asked, what bugs?
Haven't you just described a bug?
Catan is neither latency nor bandwidth sensitive.
Try building roads in an 8 pattern. You will see that the length of your roads is 10 not 11 (the road connecting two half-loops is not counted). Not fixed for many years (it was also in the old Catan app made by the same developers, reported back then.).
Road calculations also seem to have mistakes when ships are in use. I don't like seafarers so I don't have the specifics about that.
AI is making very stupid moves. Trading with people who are too far in the lead or not making moves to prevent someone from stealing their longest road. The AI can substitute human players and start ruining games for people who want to play with rational opponents.
There are other problems with the game that are purely game design decision issues but I won't go into that in much detail. I have already mentioned these things over and over again but there are never going to be fixes for these because it takes developers too much effort to start from 0.
Maybe not so much a bug as not very well network optimized. The simple solution for me, is to limit other network activity. An inconvenience, but not exactly a game breaking bug.
Well apparantly it is latency or bandwidth sensitive or it would otherwise connect. I think what you mean to say is it should not be that sensitive, although to be honest, doing a full speed download while playing an online game is not recommended for any game.
I agree 100% with the design issues, but they're just quality of life things that don't keep me from playing.
Okay, I don't think I am going to argue with you on this one.
Just please, take a quick look at this discussion forum.
How many bugs report you find here?
How many responses directly address those bugs and solve them from the admin?
How many angry players here?
For the bugs, okay here is the list, FROM JANUARY and I am telling you the truth only:
- Game stuck without any sign. You have no idea until someone manages to tell you that you are stuck
- Game broken due to an AI replace a player and then could not finish a trade or a move.
- Brown screen.
- Yeah forgot about the cannot find server message while you still can watch youtube video.
If that is not enough and you still think the game is great, then kudo to you.
FYI 1: I turned off all other internet connection apps, including web browers, no download, torrent, even skype when I play the game.
FYI 2: Dota is a multiplayer game (too), RPG game with a complex system, graphics.
I'm just saying brown screen is the only one I've personally experienced, although I have had a few opponents say they were stuck.
Don't try to play youtube videos while playing Catan :)
I never said the game is great (which it has the potential to be), I said it could use some work. I've managed to get my point across without calling it a trash game and disparaging those that have put hard work into it, I can't even begin to imagine how many lines of code, hopefully many will get changed.
You forgot the possibility of "faults" - which is where we started from. If CU have set a timeout in the microsecond range, thats a "fault". However last I looked the kicktimer was 90 seconds or so... do you think your ping goes down that much due to other activity on your machine, or another app can steal all of your bandwidth?
Its quite apparent that many of the faults come from a bad (app level) network protocol. They even said they reworked it in one of the recent releases.
This, right here is what I strongly disagree with.
I am an IT Dev myself, I know how tough it is to write tens thousand lines of code.
But you rather write a-10-lines which works beautifully than some messy thing that you dont even want to look at anymore.
That is not to mention about industry standard where you have to check your code each block and it is not a rocket science to write an online game nowadays.
