If you are 3 or 4, just make a Custom match and add them. If it's only you and 1 friend, then you cant. You can only press Start at the same time and pray Gaben, that you both end up in the same game.

if you buy or use a scroll, you can get the ability to invite friends. If you're a free player, you're locked out of the biggest thing they need free players to have consistent access to in order to encourage them to stick around.

This is indeed a step in the right direction. It's a bit sad that it took so much uproar to make it happen. It's a non-game-related feature so should be easier to implement too. I don't think the trading feature would improve at all though.

It's 2018, and I still can't play with a friend, while not having the stupid AI corrupt the game with insane trades at 30 trade requests per second.

Why can't I queue up for a free/auto-match with a friend?
Like in Rocket League, Create party, queue up....

Don't want 2 friends queuing up for auto-match because they can help each other?

I mean this game makes me ape-like angry.

Players getting "disconnected" while actually they keep playing, no rejoin possible, bugs in road length detection, can't queue up with friends, AI sucks. FU + CK!

This seems like it's well past the point where you need to just put this game on your "not interested" list and wait for a Catan game that's actually worth the asking price. Like PlayCatan used to be.

Kinda funny they shipped out an update today that claims to fix many of the problems.

I am still disappointed I can't play with my friend and some random player, and not crappy AI....

You mean the one thing that people pointed out on release was a game-breaking omission and they've promised to fix in the "next" update at least 3 times I've seen and never delivered on?

What a shocker that hasn't been fixed.
