Question about strategy layer
I have held off on playing this game for a long time, and now I finally have time to properly get into it. I am really enjoying the battles, but I have one problem in the strategy layer that I am really struggling with: I am still at the beginning of the main campaign (post mission 5), with one officer in a smallish fleet, plus one other likewise not very large fleet without an officer. Cylon fleets keep appearing all over the four systems. To reach them, it may take my fleets at least 3 turns or so, with tylium costs for accelerated jumps often being too expensive. As a consequence, even this early in the game, I have quite a few planets marked in red, and one has already left the quorum. How to manage the strategy layer?

Start with the 2 systems on the left hand side of the board and get a fleet over each planet with an officer on it. You can ignore the uninhabitated planets if a cylon fleet appears over them, there’s no need to directly intervene.

Once you have the left 2 systems under control, move back into Helios alpha and reclaim that system and start intercepting cylon fleets there, as they’re built at a hidden planet next to Helios alpha and jump there.

Thanks. Will give that a try. I should be able to recruit a second officer reasonably soon, which will make this easier. Another matter: How likely is it that planets will rejoin once I start protecting them/their systems? What are the specific conditions to be met for them to rejoin?

They'll rejoin the the turn after at low loyalty and slowly regain loyalty as long as the fleet is in orbit.

Thank you.

Phase 1: Put one full fleet with officer above each of the colonized planets in Gamma.

Phase 2: Move full fleets to the starlanes leading into (and out of) Gamma (ie, Gamma-Alpha, Gamma-Center, Gamma-Delta).

Put a single manticore+officer over each colonized world in Gamma.

Phase 3: Kill everything in Delta. Move the Gamma-Delta fleet to Delta-Beta.

Put a single manticore+officer fleet over each colonized world in Delta.

Phase 4: Kill everything in Beta. Move the Delta-Beta fleet to the Alpha-Beta starlane.

Put a single manticore+officer fleet over each colonized world in Delta.

Phase 5: Put a full combat fleet with officer over each colonized world in Alpha.

Not included: Spare fleets, fleets designed to beat specific missions, etc.
