Steam Workshop/mod support?
Is this awesome game ever going to get mod support? People could make some amazing mods with this engine like Halo space combat for instance.

that actually doesn't answer the question. that was someone from the publisher side saying users can't create a reverse engineered code and actions have to be taken over it. the rep never said that it was possible, impossible or anything in between.

All the same i can't see it happening, resources, time and money. to break the game engine open, fiddle with the code and add more, work with steam to build it up. the publisher probably wants black labs working on something else rather than dealing with such a thing, at least for now.

The way the dev responded to the other modding thread talking about being in breach of their agreements gives me the impression it's a legal issue. I read an article before Deadlock released, if memory serves Black Lab had to get special permission from Universal to make new ships for the game which I think are now basically canon. My guess is Universal wouldn't allow the game to be modded so people don't go making ships that aren't officially approved by them and Black Lab are legally bound to do everything they can to prevent modding of the game. It's like when devs want to make Warhammer games, I've read that Games Workshop are strict about what you can and can't put into the game.

Nice response. If true? this is the correct answer alright.

I think some people see a huge amount of potential in Deadlock and so they'd like to explore it out and clearly it isn't possible with the above.

Universal won't let them allow mod support of any kind, sharing modded assets etc is prohibited.

Why this is? Who knows, it's just some legal ♥♥♥♥ about them probably not wanting their IP misused. The studio that made the game isn't huge either, so don't exactly have sway.

I know games built in Unity can be modded. Battletech and Uboat are Unity games. I mod Uboat and I know it's possible.

Of course modding Unity-based games like this one is possible. That's a core "feature" of Unity. The thread I linked six days ago has screenshots that prove it.

There was a mod that added extra viper squad to battlestars. Game was patched so mod wouldn't work.
DLC then released, that added a battlestar with extra viper squad.
I dont care what the official excuse is for no modding.
Simple you now pay for things that could of been added by the modding community.
Greed, pretty straightforward. If they didnt want ships added that would break cannon then simply stipulate no ship creation.
