Have patience. BSG Deadlock is a great game without the cheats. It is not as hard as you may think it is. TeacherGalante is right..."Play on the lowest difficulty" first. Take the time to learn the game. I've played almost 3,000 hours and have beat the game on all four difficulty levels. It just takes time, knowledge of the various ships and weapons - and effort.
At the beginning the best ship would be in my opinion the Adamant class Frigates for both it's aesthetically pleasing design and robust functionality, best early fleet composition I would suggest is a balanced carrier task group. fill all seven slots with five Adamant class Frigates, two Ranger class Missile Cruisers, and a Celestra Support Freighter. Keep the Adamant's in a picket line formation with a flight-plan parallel to the Cylons and the two Rangers on the opposite side of the Adamant so their in-between them and the Cylons.
Spam torpedoes as they have a one turn cool-down with the Ranger's focus on slower targets like the Talon Carrier Frigates, their easy to spot with their slow speed and their fighters. Put the Celestra so it's hull is shadowed by the adamant's so the Cylons can't target it if not they will trust me they always got for either that or the Ranger's first, if the Adamant's are fairly in the way they will target those first. Watch for Cerastes Gunship if they are singling out single ships (which they will) use the Celestra to begin repairs the Cylons have been observed to radically change targets the moment the ship they previously were targeting is being repaired.
Another composition would be a light carrier task group. One Manticore Class Corvette, four Adamant class Frigates, two Ranger class Missile Cruisers, and a Celestra Support Freighter. same battle formation only the Manticore should be at the front of the line to break off and scout.
A third option I could recommend would be for heavy carrier task group for prolonged engagements. This composition consist of four Adamant class Frigates, two Ranger class Missile Cruisers, and two Celestra Support Freighter. The faster you can armour your fleets hulls the better the odds are at surviving a prolonged assault without losing any ships.
These are just three fleet configurations that I have found work, I rather like early game as it's in my opinion is more fun.
Probably would find it on a Reddit somewhere if their that interested in going that route, would be funny to see that have Jupiter Class Battlestar's while the Cylons best is a few Talon Carrier Frigates or Cerastes Gunship.
Just look at the other recent thread Xill started. It started as asking for help with revenants, and ended up being a discussion on the many many ways of using a celestra, and advanced tactics and strategies as well.
There are also very well made guides made by players. I would especially recommend the ones made by Sir Wagglepus III.
Well ya if you want to go all out.
