This story flashback with the first hybrid experiments was from the "Razor" film ;)
Or (which I hope most) Season 3 will go back, but now you get to play the Cylons.
One is of course forward to the second Cylon War, which you could see the modern ship pack as supporting. But given their status as having been entrusted with the official lore by the rightsholders, I highly doubt we'll see that. That puts you in a weird fanfic-y place that would run parallel to the show's established timeline and potentially cheapen it. And I feel like it's one thing to play around with Blood & Chrome's timeline in such a fashion, but it's another entirely to futz with the actual, sanctified RDM events.
Plus the modern ships don't really look to me like they were planned for, in fact they look kinda rushed (there's some weird turret placements on the Valkyrie and the Mercury looks hilariously undergunned for a successor to the Jupiter class.) They look more like a slapdash easter egg DLC than a precursor to a modern timeline.
The other option is going back to the cease-fire while Galactica was grounded and fleshing out exactly what happened during that time. This I think would be a double-edged sword of sorts; on the one hand I was disappointed they just timeskipped over that and think there's tons of story potential there. On the other, it likely means you get all the new ships and munitions Season 2 added stripped away from you, which would honestly suck.
Where does that leave us? Well, likely at the end unfortunately. Maybe there's behind-the-scenes reasons for it (like the upcoming Peacock... reboot? Restart? Continuation?) but it really does feel like they've rushed the campaign timeline to it's conclusion while starting to shift focus more to multiplayer this season.
I expect they'll continue to curate the multiplayer and make small balancing adjustments in the future, but Deadlock's story is likely told at this point.
We know they stopped development for the Switch because of a lack of sales.
