lmfao the original series is so fcking flawed, stop living in the past. The new series is the only series worth watching now.
Both series have their flaws, the old one is terrible cgi wise and wasn't meant to be finished so early and the way it ended, the old series feels a little rushed and they didn't have the budget to make it look as awesome as it could have(eventhough the cgi was on point but scenes had to be reused in order to cover every battle etc.). While the new series got some pretty pointless episodes and some people argue about the ending being bad(eventhough I personallyl iked it). Both series are awesome.
Oh you mean the one with lasers, cloaking vipers, and 70's Porno movie sets? The new series provided problems the original didn't address, water shortage, food shortages... mutanies , personal conflict. All of which would realistically happen in any enviroment.
Actually, according to the reimagined series, the Colonials reverted back to a lot of analog systems after the Cylons started hacking their ships left and right at the start of the war.
Remember, in the original series the Cylons were not created by the Colonials. In the new series, they are. The Colonials were advanced enough to create artificial intelligence, they had advanced computer systems. They just had to toss them out of the window when the Cylons began using them against mankind.
This is also the reason Cylons resorted to boarding Colonial craft. They could no longer remotely vent the ship and kill the crew, so they had to do it manually. The Cylons tried in season 2's Valley of Darkness and I recall someone commenting that the Cylons started doing it in the first war after they couldn't hack their way in anymore.
"CGI"? In the original BSG? Are you serious? Kids these days :)
The term you are looking for is special effects/optical effects. Back in the day all of that footage was done using film and it was much harder and more expensive than the a lot of the digital effects of today.
actually, cgi was invented a couple of years before the original bsg was released, so its pretty rational to assume some of the scenes were cgi, just like how a couple of the original star wars scenes were also cgi, which is a year younger than bsg.
New on has physics and weapons variety as well as ship variety the old one did not have I don't think. It also has electronic warfare in the form of computer hacking.
