how do i protect civilian ships?
is there a defense from missles, or a taunt or something?
On on a side mission i thin with derelicts firing on 4 transports. 2 transports die on 2nd turn. the other 2 die when derelicts fire again. im not supposed to destroy the derelicts, so how do i protect transports?

You can assign vipers to protect ships, the vipers should try to intecept all incoming missiles targeted on the ship you told them to protect.

In addition to Tom's advice, have the transports radically change elevation each turn as you get them out of the combat zone. This is a great defense against torpedoes, but you will need Viper escorts to combat guided munitions.

Alternatively, you can use Sweepers to drop a chaff cloud between the transports and the derelicts to defend against guided munitions. This requires precise placement so is more difficult to do.
