So how is the game?
As someone who has enjoyed such games as Homeworld and Nexus the Jupiter Incident, how does BSG Deadlock stand up to them? I've been glancing at the steam page every so often but not really looked into the game in depth yet, but would be interested in hearing how it compares to two big games I've already loved in this genre.

Also I'm curious how replayable it is, I've tried a few games published by Slytherine and often found that they are smaller developer studios and the games have a few notable gaps. For example no skirmish mode (although some have pre-made missions to pick from, but can often force your army composition or faction); limited expansion of features; "rough" edges etc... Ergo the game AI relies on pre-scripted maps to work rather than at least working out how to play on generic maps or with premade skirmish (and yes Nexus that I mentioned above was very notable in also missing its own skirmish mode)

a good comparison would be Homeworld since every ship has a different role, but think homeworld + XCOM. Its turn based, so you have time to plan your actions to the small details. Once you hit end turn the battle resumes.

replayability just got a major boost. There has been skirmish mode in here for a while both PVEE and PVP, but now they added basiclly a survival mode that feels like you are in the 2004 BSG world. Running, getting atttacked, running, rince repeat. You can customize your fleet in skirmish and even the AI fleet too.

As mentioned above... and having loved Homeworld series and Nexus I found BSG:D very fun as it brought about a different style of tactics and strategy to the game. Having played Star Hammer briefly prior BSG:D, I already got a brief introduction to how the gameplay worked as both were developed by the same devs and similar in mechanics (lots of improvements from Star Hammer to BSG). Between the DLCs, the content updates and balancing done so far I am very pleased with the game and it does offer good continued play. So far I've done several campaigns (not completed...) and not one has been the same for me. Definitely worth the money in my book.

While I can't comment on Homeworld, BSG:D does come with some replayability. If you plan on picking up the newest DLC, you will get a lot of replayablity out of the game with the Operation Anabasis, which has several modifiers that make every playthrough different. There is also the Broken Alliance DLC, which contains both ships and new story content, that also adds additional replayablity to the game (if you decide to play the 1st playthrough without TBA). Aside from that, there is a skirmish mode in which you can play against AI with either pre-built or your own fleets (both for yourself and for the AI). If you pick up all the DLC, you get a lot of replayability out of the game with Skirmish, Anabasis and Campaign modes.

I guess this leaves on final question - when ships detonate when destroyed is it a single boom its gone; or a satisfying series of rippling explosions over the hull of the ship followed by a cinematic style explosion - possibly even leaving behind debris and remains floating in space.

The latter: a dramatic explosion and the hull fragments remain, drifting through space.

Note to self - leaving a ship going forwards and ignoring it is a bad idea when said ship then rams your command space station!

:steamfacepalm: lol always check each and every ship and squadron for orders during each turn... do not trust each ship to act accordingly. Focus Fire... Flak... Movement... Posture... etc. verify before selecting Next Turn :steamhappy:
