Torpedoes + Hit-and-run attacks = successful Manticores

You should use the adamant as a tank. Berserkers to do the heavy hitting. Manticores for scouting, ordnance, and clean-up. On full defence a manticore has the largest dradis range.
Also if you haven't looked into it you should use the wall technique. 2x Adamants stacked, 2-3x berserk stacked on the other side, away from enemy. All of these should be low compared to threats. Manticore(s) high up to define targets and help deal with immediate threats especially to berserks (berserks are actually my primary damage dealers till artemis, also not my idea). Unfortunately for a craft that benefits most from being high up its bottom armour is not very good.

Odd, I found them to be awesome. Wolfpack tactics, huge alpha with missiles, you just wreck the enemy. If you want a 'no loss' win, it's impossible but losing 1-2 Manticores for 5 times their number in Cylons is massively worth it, not to mention they are very handy on the strategic map with only a 2 turn recharge time. They'll save your ass in the beginning when there are lots of enemies on the map and you got very few ships.

Try this, when any Manticore gets targeted, bump the defence posture to max while the rest bump attack to max, rip the enemy apart while that one tanks. Gang up on the enemy, 3 Manticores to one, it'll pop fast. The only time I ever fear for my Manticores is if there are Raiders, which is why later game, they need Berzerk or Adamant support.

thanks for the advice guys ill tryi it out it seems my issue is i need to build a bigger support wing and use hit and run instead of just brawling it out which is my defaut style

so a follow up question what ships can use torpedos? i unlocked it but all i got so far is manticore adament and saving for artemis, i dont think the game would give me the unlock and not be able to use it

It always gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling seeing my guides linked - It's good to know the effort is helping some people.

There nothing wrong with the Manticores i just do not really use them myself. That being said the few i do have i either have nukes or Torps on so they can do some major damage and try to escape.

often just scout with them or if im feeling spicy slap a nuke on it

I also use manticores to great effect. I field three artemis class battlestars accompanied by four manticores operating as a single unit. Their guns, when focus fired shred just about anything and they spew torpedos.

How do I keep Manticores alive when in contact with swarms of Cerastes?
