Any Advice for similar game?
I tried the game this morning. I found I liked the simultaneous plotted movement system, but didn't care much for the orders from Admiral Kaine telling me I had to go here or there. Does anyone have any advice for a game with a similar tactical combat system with a more open strategy similar to say Civilization 6? Where I do as I please without any Admiral Kain types barking orders about being here or there at such and so a time, etc...

Hi,

The first few missions are under orders as part of the tutorial. Once your past mission 4, then command falls fully into your hands.

Thanks

A lot of that barking is just from the first few tutorial missions. After those you have your choice of what upcoming battles to face, though characters may tell you what they want on particular campaign missions.

If you find the barking annoying you can also turn off the Officer dialog the game's Audio settings (that's what I did).

If you want a similar game there's Battlefleet Gothic:Armada. Though instead of turn-based it's real-time and only has a 2-D movement fighting space rather than 3-D. But Gothic lets you slow down the game speed via a key-command to take actions on multiple units, which is similar to having it turn-based.

Thanks. Maybe I'll give it another go.

Similar games of tactics? Yeah. MANY games. XCom. Xenonauts (free on GOG for another 37 hours). The Jagged Alliance games. The new BattleTech game. If your looking even closer to Civ style then Endless Legend.

See how this game works for you then come back when you're done.

Another game that uses the same system would be flotilla. But its a teeny tiny indie game.

To others posting related games: Hes talking about simultaneous turn based. Like all units moving at once with pauses. Not things like xcom.

Edit: Just realized they are making flotilla 2... For vr only. What a shame :/

Xenonauts for free? That's a good deal

BattleFleet Gothic.

However it is not turn based. Otherwise very similar.

We really need to know what BarbarianHunter likes and dislikes about a few games. Then we can dump the last few decades worth of similar games onto his/her wish list. ;)

Sword of the Stars is a good space 4x game with real-time tactical battles.

Get the first one not the second one, the second one would be good to some people but comes with far too many problems to recommend it generally.

It looks like he/she is looking for games using the WE-GO system, where movement and planning takes place simultanously, not in real time like an RTS or piece by piece like a traditional turn based game like Xcom. I too love the system BSG uses, however I have not been able to find any other game that uses it. Sad. :col:

By the same devs

StarHammer (Aka BSG Deadlock v0.5 - just replace the Cylons with Tyranid wannabees :) )

WEGO turn based games (as opposed to I go You Go turn based games) are pretty rare. You'll find a bunch of wargames if you google, but they're an acquired taste. The combat mission series is great, but pretty old now. Other stuff tends to be more abstract.

Frozen Synapse is worth a look... but if you want a strategic layer on top you'll have to wait for Frozen Synapse 2 which will simulate a city for battles to take place in.

We-Go is rare but pause-on-space is very similar and not as rare.

I can't remember if it's simultaneous turns, but if you want similar turn based ship-vs-ship fleet action try Atlantic Fleet:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/420440/Atlantic_Fleet/

It's WW2 Atlantic naval combat and even has a dynamic campaign. It's not in space, but it's the one game that reminds me of BSG Deadlock the most.

Edit: Turns out it's not simultaneous turns. It's still good ship vs ship action though.
