Only three types of Battlestars?
Is that correct? Two with the base game and an additional Battlestar in one of the DLCs?

I know the series was light on information aside from the direct looks we got at Galactica and the Mercury-class Pegasus, but only three types is kind of a disappointment. Maybe I've played too much of that Sins of a Solar Empire BSG mod with its 10+ types of Battlestar.

For people who have the game, does you feel limited in what you can deploy? There does seem to be decent variety in support ships, even if they're not as sexy as Battlestars. Is it enough?

Also, Jupiter class is the "on purpose" battlestar. The state of the art. The ship especially designed to counter the Cylon threat. As said above, the pride of the fleet. So better battlestars? I don't think it's a good idea lore-wise.
Also, the game takes place (in its cannon) during a few months. I can understand older models like Berzerk or Janus or Atlases being taken out of mothballing. But having a brand new battlestar, more powerfull and modern, designed and built over a few weeks?

I don't know. Apart from blattant errors, their ships seemed wrong (but I liked the basestar).
What's the deal with this 14-years old crazy modder-designed uber-galactica with guns on every cm² available? Pure nonsense.

Too many people are hung up on "better battlestars." That's not how warfare works, and that's not the only option.

Instead of "better" battlestars there would be battlestars that serve different roles. Ultimately they are capital ships, but reflecting the real world they would have different roles within a fleet.

that would make them not battlestars after a point I think.

That said if they wanted to add valkryie it would probably be a "fast" battlestar since its so small comparitively. That stealthy/e-war are really the only options you have for it.

Well i can point out a few problems in the show namely how a active duty warship had most of her armor gone and one of her flight pods disable. Now it is possible that the Jupiters got a couple of different refits during the war. One refit we see in B&C where she was given a ton of guns. Then during Razor movie where we see a flashback near the end of the first war were she has less guns and armor. Now that can be pass off remove armor to try to speed the ship up. If the ship faster you can run less funs since you can move the ship better.

The Colonial Fleet only had like 135 battlestars give or take. What i wonder is how many other classes of ships did they have. Cause while i think Carriers might of been phase out of the fleet there should of been Cruisers and Frigates at least to build battlegroups around.

Well during the fall of the Colonies there were only three active types of battlestars. The Jupiters which most likely on there way out unless they were a block 2 build or upgrade. The Valkrie Type which has more guns per square inch then any battlestar which is a smaller faster battlestar and the backbone of the fleet. Then the Mercury Class which were the heavy hitters of the fleet, if i had to guess i would say they take the place as the main commond ship of the fleet. What i wish we had seen was colonial support ships like we have in the game.

They did show a guardian Cruiser if I remember right in the background of one of the shots from the miniseries where they were nuking the shipyards.

its sort of a wedge with two engines in a v-shape a few light guns and a flight pod hangind bewteen the engines below the hull.

its a very odd ship tbh.

The ship you're referring to is the Defender class. It was actually a fan design made for the original series, which they implemented as a kind of homage to those designs. And it wasn't at the shipyard, it's seen flying in the background when Roslin gets told she has cancer.

The ship in the background at the shipyards is the Berzerk class. You can see it docked next to Pegasus in the opening shot. It has been implemented in the game.

Actually, a definitive number of battlestars is questionable. Although Kara Thrace does state that 30 battlestars represents a "quarter of the fleet", it's never elaborated if she means the Colonial Fleet as a whole, or simply the fleet that holds station in Helios Alpha.

That point arose because originally, the twelve colonies were all orbiting a single binary system. Later in the series, this was retconned to a double binary system with the planets spread out in four solar systems which orbit one another (as is now represented in game). Compared to a single solar system, a double binary massively increases the space the Colonial Fleet would have to cover. As such, an increase in battlestars from 120 wouldn't be entirely unthinkable, especially with the introduction of post-war classes such as the Valkyrie (see what I did there?).

That also raises the question if there were just 3 battlestar classes? Those are what we have confirmed since we have seen them on screen. But it's entirely possible that more classes existed.

Aside from Deadlock making support ships such as corvettes, frigates and cruisers canon, it was already established the Colonial Fleet operated such classes. There was a source which I believed to be seen in the series that stated that prior to commanding the Valkyrie, Adama commanded an escort.

I know the Berzerk were show in Razor one of them was dock shortly before the shipyard was nuke. Given the fact that a Berzerk was still active it makes me wonder if the Colonials made any new support ships or fleet units. The Only class that i know of that was made post war was the Mercury Class Battlestars, The Valkyrie was in B&C from behide it looks the same that Adama was the commander of. Even if the Valkyrie was made during the first war like alot of other ships it must of saw major upgrades to make it better between the wars.

Yeeaaaaah.... I kind of refuse to acknowledge that the Valkyrie is a first war ship. B&C frakked too many things up for me to take it seriously. I could raise the same arguments regarding the Berzerk, since they just nicked both models to save costs on B&C.

Perhaps or the Valkyrie we see in B&C is a similar class that was the base for the later Valkyrie. It is true shows love to grab things to save money.

As for the Battlestars classes this is what we know. The Artemis Class is the first know Battlestar design it was phase out of the Colonial fleet cause it was a pain to upgrade and the Cylon advance enough to outclass though i think it more the upgrades. The Minvera class we know is the base for the Mercury class and most likely was retired out of the fleet after the war or a few years after. The Orion Class Battlestar that was seen and B&C appears to be a shealth base ship and had more missles then guns most likely a uncommon design retired after or during the war. The Jupiter Class still on active duty when the Colonies were destroyed, most likely new ones since all but the Galatica of the first 12 were destroyed. I would say those Jupiters had upgrades we do not know about. The Mercury appear to be a new class that was most likely built within the last 10 to 15 years at most i think.

Sadly, the model is exactly the same as the ones used in Razor and the Plan. Which means it's the highly advanced, in my opinion still post-war, one that they just plopped in there for the cool factor. Again, it's things like that which make me not take B&C seriously.

No comments on the Artemis class, it's undoubtedly out of service by the time of the Fall.

Minerva advanced into the Mercury, so it's also likely she was phased out when the Mercury came into being.

Orion is a nice design, but once again I can't take her very seriously. Those missile launchers you speak of were used like they were rapid fire flak guns, because that looks cooler than just a salvo of missiles and then reloading. But yeah, most likely phased out.

And Galactica was one of three original batch Jupiters to survive the war. She however stayed in service the longest because of her PR value. And yes, there's two Jupiters at the Scorpia shipyards and one over Caprica, so they were possibly still in service.
