I want to cheat
Hey, how ya doin'? I played the game. It was good, liked it. Great stuff. Now I want to play it with all of my stats maxed out. Any way I can make this happen? I mean I've tried Cheat Engine, but it's weird.

You can edit the save file.

How?

Ok, found it and how to modify it. But the changes won't stick. Game just overwrites em.

First you have to use 7zip or similar decompressor to extract the .exe file. You need to edit the .json files in the scenes folder. You can change values for events and startup. Use jsoneditoronline.org. Copy the whole file into the left field, click the right arrow, If you add a line, you have to change the labels to the new lines at the end. When you're finished click the left arrow and then the compact button on the top left. Copy into the file. Some special characters show up as question marks though. It's pretty simple, but takes some getting used to. The size of the game makes adjusting things rather time consuming. You can use this method on all Hosted or Choice of Games. Like always, backup your files beforehand. Use the index.html to play the game. You can't get steam achievements in this manner though.

Edit: I forgot, sometimes even if you do everything right the game sometimes goes to a blank screen with no choices. Just replace the scene file where this happens with the original and try again.

Good stuff. I do keep getting a script error when I load the game after editing the json files though.

I'm getting the same problem, it would be lovely if someone more knowledgeable in the matter could enlighten us.

Eh, you can edit the values if you do all that jazz with the archive, but run the index file through firefox. Not sure if it creates a save that'll carry over, but if you want max stats that's how you do it.
Ah nice, thank you.

I did one spoof playthrough. You don't need all that extra crap. Notepad works just fine. Notepad++ even better. Just go to where the save is, and edit the official save, not the one that says temp.

It's honestly a good way to test if games are bogus or not on whether choices matter.

Where's the save?
ReDragonInc Mar 15, 2017 @ 5:01pm
(Hard Drive Your Steam is on):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\71994757 (<- Yours might be different)

Make sure the CoG you are trying to edit is the most recent game you've played. Even if it's just reading 1 page of dialogue. Then, in that 71994757 file, sort the files by date (Most recent to oldest), and open that folder. Then open the remote folder.

The file you'll want to open with Notepad or Notepad++ will be called storeP(Gamename)Pstate. There is a similar file called storeP(GameName)Pstatetemp. Do not touch that file as it has 0 effect on the game.

Example file: storePpsyhighPstate. Once you have the file open, just navigate carefully for the "Stats" you want to modify, but again, be careful.
