You don't have to kill the ninjas. To just pass them and head for the boss is often easier. Expecially on extreme difficulty, fighting is the worst thing you can do in this area :)

Patience is key. Try to block their Shuriken with your shield and let them get close.
Also the boomerang is the best subweapon you can have in this area. Just throw it at the enemies and catch it. Easiest wayto deal with the Samurai.

Also, make sure to get the sword from the shop on your way to the dungeon. Just saying. You need it, otherwise the boss will receive scratch damage.

You should add that the Tasmanian sword is in a shop behind a hidden door on the way to this dungeon. But true, this sword is also vital for later parts in the game.

I literally got to the VERY FIRST bouncy thing... where you see the first blue snake... and can't make the jump to the next platform.

15 seconds in = GAME OVER

Totally wrong. This is a typical classic game from 1986, a Sega triple-AAA title back those days for the Sega Master System II. The new remastered version changes nothing that is related to the gameplay, only visuals and music quality. Else it would have been called a remake. So you get the original Sega gameplay - old-school style.

1986 was a time you did not had any internet to read guides or watch videos to help you in a game. The games were really difficult and challenging back those day because there weren't many games and so they were meant to keep players busy for longer periods without the possibility to patch or add something later on. Those games demanded to keep trying and practice before you beat them. I had a lot of C64 games I never managed to play through. Although I was very very persistent in trying.

Nowaday players are used to get their victory for free. The less effort, the better. More than one death in a row and they tend to give up quickly. They are used to this kind of "modern" game styles, and this is fine, as long as you stay on this level.

But when you play a remastered of old classics, be ready to get a much higher grade of a challenge than you are used to usually. Don't play classics if you are not ready for it. And to be honest, Wonderboy III is not even one of the really hard games from this era. I would give it only a 5 out of 10, because you have endless tries without much of a big penalty. There is no total game over that needs you to start over from the very beginning.
