Modern Xinput compatible controllers shouldn't need any configuration.
Please note that legacy DirectInput controllers needs explicit mapping in the OPTIONS menus to be usable.

If your controller is detected by the game but you are still having issues, you may run the game with the -toolinputs command-line parameter (click Properties then Set Launch Options then enter "-toolinputs" in the box) to enable a debug tools that will help you visualize the raw controller data that are is seeing.

I have Dragon's Trap on Mac and I want to play it with my DS4 but the controller doesn't seem to register at all. I'm only able to use my keyboard and mouse, and when I go to Options > Controls > Gamepad settings, it shows all my game pads as "disconnected". The DS4 works no worries with other Steam games. I'm not a very experienced gamer so I'm quite possibly messing up something very simple. Can anybody help?

Is the controller configured in Big Picture Mode? You may have to turn on (or maybe even off...?) PS4 Configuration Support in the controller settings menu. This tool may help as well:

Inside "Wonder Boy.app/Contents/MacOS/" is a file called gamecontrollerdb.txt; that tool should give you something that you can place in this file to make it work with Wonder Boy.

I recently bought the game and unfortunately my XBox 1 controller won't seem to work. It works with any other game I have booted up however does not work on Wonder Boy. I have tried reinstalling the game and that did nothing to help the issue.

Sorry to hear. Could you clarify which OS you are using? Does anything appears listed in the Options menu where the gamepads are listed?

I am on Windows 10
On the options menu I have the 4 base controllers listed ranging from 0-4 but I also have an XBox One controller which doesnt seem to do anything when its selected and an XBox 360 controller which doesnt work either.

Would you mind booting the game with all your controllers plugged in, quitting, and then sending here (or on pastebin.com) a copy of the wb.log file created in the exe64/ folder of the game?

Im happy to report that the problem has been fixed, I dont know what the issue was but after some time the game just seemed to work with the controller. I appreciate the fast responses though.

In Big Picture mode there should be a Controller Configuration menu, with a checkbox for PS4 controller support. Uncheck that box if it's checked, then the controller should work. At the moment Steam Input on macOS does not work at all for any game:

I can confirm that the DualShock 4 works on macOS when Steam Input is disabled.

Hi, since last update of Steam last month (september 2017), my PS4 controller does not work with Wonderboy anymore. It seems to be recognized by Steam, since the controller does work in the controller settings screen.
I tried flibitijibibo's trick but that did not work. Have an idea ?

I just pushed an update that updates to SDL 2.0.7 to help resolve the issue as best as we can on our end, but note that the problem is specifically with Steam Controller support in general. With PS4 configuration support in Steam turned OFF, controllers recognized by SDL should work, with PS4 configuration support in Steam turned ON, no games will work whatsoever. I have locally verified this with all the games I could test with on macOS, using a Steam controller, PS4 controller, 360 controller, and now an Xbone controller as well. The problem is specifically with Steam's macOS Steam Controller support:

Dude, I´m go options and just selected and that worked. I was "unaccustomed" to the other games I have, that everything works automatically without having to mess around with setup.
