Immediate crash

With a Win10 system, this does not load properly. It starts, then the display freezes even though movement is possible after that, and then of course it crashes. I've tried to tweak options to prevent this, but I don't have any other things I know I can do offhand. Any help is appreciated.

Just to note, I have adjusted resolution and this has done nothing. It still does exactly the same thing, it just takes slightly longer at some different resolutions. There is seemingly no logical reason for it to keep doing this.
