Does multiplayer through steam still work?

It still is, if you can enjoy it on your own, then yeah, and deal with the fact that we're missing Marvel Battlegrounds, and Finding Dory play sets, including their figures/characters, Baloo and Alice Through the Looking Glass characters. But besides that, the game is still fun to play with everything else unlocked.

Unless they updated the game, it is still possible to play with people through inviting them through your steam's friend list.
It was a sort of exploit. no server required.

what you want to do is shif-tab into the steam overlay, go to your friendlist, and then invite them to your game.

Yeah, that doesn't work anymore, apparently there was a server of theirs running it on Steam and it doesn't work anymore. At least not for me and my friends, unless you're saying it works when you invite them.
