Looks almost exactly like Fran Bow in places
Surely I can't be the only one who sees that?

Yes, it does ;)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

You can definitely see influence from FB, but this game definitely has its own unique style.

I'm honestly not sure if OP is trying to imply SF is ripping FB off, or if I'm just being jaded and misreading a simple statement of observation as an attack. Not even sure why I'm so curious TBH, honestly I don't care either way lol

I'm actually glad some people have drawn this comparison because I might not have found out about Fran Bow otherwise. Looks like an awesome game! Since I've never played it and didn't know of it's existence prior to writing Sally Face, Fran Bow wasn't an influence in the creation of my game. Though I could see the possibility of the devs of Fran Bow having some similar influences as I did for Sally Face (going off of just the trailer). After all, nothing anyone does or creates is 100% original since we are all products of our environment.

Very cool, thanks for the response!

What, if any, games/cartoons/comics would you say have most influenced your art style? I honestly don't see any really striking similarities between FB and SF, though I can see where a similarity could be found by people. Definitely notwhen compared to a game like Neverending Nightmares, which is strongly reminiscent of Edward Gorey and Charles Adams IMHO. Nothing wrong with that either, its just more apparent to me than what your influences might be.

Also, just in case the dev does read this: The whole chapter vs. season pass pricing thing...unfortunately, you can't win. I understand where you're coming from. Unfortunately, you are a member of a group of people (game devs) who have continuously taken money for episodic games and screwed over their customers. Look at Republique for example. Took money for their ios season pass, and used the money to release it on every other medium first, while releasing a halfassed port of the last chapters three years later, after it had been released on every other market, having been developed by the ios purchases. So a justifiable reaction by gamers is to simply not buy season passes from unvetted developers. I think you might really benefit by releasing a roadmap with tentative timeline for all chapters. And if you stick to it, or at least are vocal about changes, more people might be willing to give you a chance. My two cents, didn't want to start a new thread to post my stupid advice you didnt ask for in the first place though. ;-)

I'd say the flashback at the beginning of Ep 2 is similar in style to the flashback at the beginning of Downfall Redux. And in my mind, drawing an analogy with Downfall Redux can only be viewed as a compliment :).

I wouldn't want to see anything resembling Fran Bow. Games like Fran Bow, Memoranda, The Wardrobe go on the assumption that in a surreal game it's okay to have illogical puzzles and no justification for the story events. Which I think isn't okay: a connection can be associative and vague, or an insane person can draw very logical conclusions from false premises, but it shouldn't be "We have an insane criminal, or paranormal events, or a parallel universe, so anything goes".

Yeah I agree about Fran Bow. The first bit of it was great but then it just descended into sillness once she got out of the facility she was in. I did end up purchasing Sally Face and look forward to trying it out.

Played it today. I loved it but seriously am pissed about the only option is to buy the season pass to play E2. I came quite close to giving a downvote on my review but I love the content so much I couldn't do it. Please reconsider and I will come back and give you my money once you do. If not, I guess I will just watch videos on You Tube to find out the rest of the story. For free, at that. Reading these boards I suspect you are missing out on money you could be making selling E2 as a standalone.

This game is EXACTLY like Fran Bow. Even some of the gameplay is EXACTLY the same.
Not to say that makes this a bad game.

Sounds very much like you stopped playing Fran Bow after the first chapter, if that's your opinion. Yes, it does change tone for a while but make no mistake; it goes back to utter darkness and despair later on.

I played through the whole Fran Bow game twice. I do agree with you though that after Fran Bow got out of the hospital it became a unique game.

This game also reminds me a lot of The Cat Lady/Downfall/[third in the series that hopefully comes out soon].

There is a LOT of slogging around into each and every apartment in the building.

And yes, after finishing the second chapter, this game is like Fran Bow without the drugs. There is a cat too, but Gizmo just watches TV instead of solving problems.
The art style reminds me of the Simpsons and 90's Nickelodean cartoons like Hey Arnold, and of course Jason!!

Oh guys really?! I think Fran Bow takes very much from Alice: Madness Returns, and eveh has some easter eggs connected to AMR - the plot, mini-games, gore style, and so on. Sally Face I find pretty much unique in its own way, and is there is a game i would connect it too - it is Longest Journey. Not because of the plot, but because main protagonists start living in a new place, meet new friends and enemies, and each small story is important, and there is Unknown in our world. Also see reference: Netflix series Stranger Things (teenagers try to investigate occult/demonic part of this world, government conspiracies, mad experiments, reality is changed... you know how that goes...))
Fran Bow can be popular with young teenagers, as for me, and Sally Face is so much more adult and serious... The main connection is that both games aree point-n-click with a bit grotesque style of art, that's all.
