Seems like some people are having this issue after downloading the new content. I'm not sure what would be causing it but if you follow the steps in this thread, you should be fine after that: http://steamcommunity.com/app/541570/discussions/0/1457328392103744989/

I am having exactly the same problem. The game starts launching, gets to the gamepad graphic and then freezes, so I have to use alt-F4 to get out. I have deleted the save files as suggested, tried starting in off-line mode, verified the game files and disabled the steam overlay. I have even uninstalled and re-downloaded the game, to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated :) I am using Linux.

Hm, that's definitely frustrating! The only reason for it to get stuck on the control screen is if there is a save file that doesn't have saved game content on it. Do you have the DLC installed or just Episode One? Have you tried deleting any cloud saves?

Thanks, I managed to fix it :steamhappy:
I noticed my level0 save file was registered as image file type. I tried deleting it but it kept recreating it as an image file (?). So I made a copy of level1 and renamed it to level0. That managed to get me into the menu of the game. I then deleted game from there and started a new game. Works perfectly now!

Those level files are the actual levels of the game and not save files. To access your local save file you go to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\LocalLow\Steve Gabry\Sally Face. If you edit any of the level files, it could break the game or cause certain Steam connections to be broken. Just for your future reference! What you deleted was only the Splash screen (the Portable Moose logo) so it may not cause any issues for you. If anything, your playtime and achievements might not register with Steam, in which case if you want to fix that you'll have to reinstall the game to get the level0 file back.

Valis, just out of curiosity, did you glance at the permissions settings, i.e. 755 or whatever? I don't really game on linux ever, but seem to remember having an issue a few times where the sticky bit was set so I couldn't change the file name unless I either took ownership or modified the permissions to exclude the sticky bit from the file. is steam completely local to your normal user? cause you should have been able to chown the file, chmod it to whatever is appropriate in your setup but usually either 755 or 644 or thereabouts, then set the sticky bit on the file with chmod +t level0, which should make it so that the name can't be changed except by you or root. Cause this smacks of permission issues, but I could be totally off. Any insight, dev?

allof this just reminded me exactly why I stopped gaming on Linux. Between steam breaking every other update and having my entire graphical desktop bork whenever I had to install updated nVidia proprietary drivers (or god forbid any open-source gpu drivers, they were uniformly terrible every time I used them), I gave up the fight and use win 10 for steam. plus all my games work on windows, definite bonus.

@SteveGabry: I don't have a C: drive as I am running Linux :steamhappy: I went to game properties in Steam and selected "Browse Local Files" and that's where it took me. I validated the files again and just re-downloaded the missing file, now I have a splash screen again! Anyway, whatever I did the game is working perfectly, saves, levels, et al. Thanks for the help, appreciate it.

@music_ninja83: I don't think it was a permissions issue but I'm actually not sure now what the cause was. Honestly, I've never had issues with gaming on Linux since I switched from AMD to NVidia, the propierty NVidia drivers work really well. Been Windows-free for seven years now and I aint never going back!

@Valis Actually sounds like you have way more linux experience than me, only a couple years under my belt. I see linux and m default assumption is new-ish ubuntu user still learning to love their terminal, not fear it. Hope I didn't come across condescendingly, I'm sure you are well aware how many issues a simple permissions goof can cause, imo it seems to be one of the most common.

Would you mind adding me? I had a couple questions that it sounds like you very likely have insight on, but this is probably not the appropriate place (re nVidia drivers).

Hey, sorry I forgot you said you were on Linux! I believe on Linux the save gets stored in XDG_DATA_HOME//Steve Gabry/Sally Face. Anyhow, the reason it's fixed is because you deleted your local save from within the game. By removing the splash screen, it allowed you to bypass the loading of the save file and get to the main menu. Otherwise manually deleting the save file from your computer would have had the same effect. Glad you got it working though!

@SteveGabry: Hehe, I figured out afterward that was the case. Funny how it's always obvious after the fact. How did the save file get corrupted in the first place I wonder. The very first time I ran the game it gave me the option of choosing between controller or keyboard. My controller wasn't connected so I switched it on and that's when the game froze for the first time. From then on it would get stuck on the gamepad screen until I (somehow) managed to fix it. I only have Episode 1 installed, if that helps. (Great game, btw :steamhappy:) Cheers.

@music_ninja83: No problem, I'll be happy to help if I can, although I'm far from being an expert :P I've had some hairy momnets with permissions myself but usually manage to get things working. I've got to the point where I can comfortably fix things without too much blood sweat and tears, hehe.
