I agree, this is not good and I'm not taking a chance. I too would buy them separately, I no longer buy content that hasn't been finished/released yet. Blues and Bullets is a good example, also the vast majority of Early Access titles that never gets completed. I'll wait until all the episodes are out before I buy the season pass.
This thread has more details about why I chose the Season Pass approach, if interested: http://steamcommunity.com/app/541570/discussions/0/2592234299565044082/
When episodic games are released they should have the option for us to buy episode by episode and not just as a lump sum as if the devs/company do go belly up we wont be out of pocket and left with a game that will never be finished!!
And for me will I buy this or any other game in future that sticks to this way of releasing episodic content????............................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
You would have thought really that each episode would have been available to buy on its own as if you can do it for episode one then why not????
And with the way a lot of episodic games have gone of late (Goodbye fair Blues and Bullets) you would have thought that releasing each on its own was a given!!!!
Heres hoping you have changed your mind on that one?? ;)
Hey, I appreciate your interest in Sally Face. If I could go back in time, I may have done it a little differently. I probably won't go the route of doing a season pass with future games. I had good intentions and tried to make what I thought was the best decision for users and for development. However, I think I was a bit overwhelmed in the beginning and was overlooking the obvious issue of trust; with this being my first solo project and all, people don't know me. I take yours and everyone's feedback into consideration.
At this point, with how the project is built, it'd require a huge overhaul to make it work as standalone builds for each episode. Plus anytime I'd have to do an update would be a nightmare: 3 builds per episode (win, mac, linux) X 5 episodes X 3 platforms (steam, itch, game jolt) and possibly more in the future. If I weren't a solo dev on this, I may have tried to release them separately, but I don't think that would be a good decision at this stage, just because of the amount of time it would add to development.
So my hope is that once this game is finished, people will continue to enjoy it and that those who were maybe on the fence will come and give the full game a try :) Then for my next game I can re-evaluate how I release it and sell it, without reliance on a season pass.
