Here's a collection of random tips for the beginners. Things that will make the game more enjoyable if you know/use them:

• if you're a Knight, make sure you use the dashing rage attack on bosses. It stuns most of them and does a lot of damage. Spam the quick attack on boss or minions to fill up the rage and repeat.
  
• make sure you check the damage numbers for weapons. You can press the pause button to see the stats for your current weapon. For melee weapons, attacks marked as "quick" do about double damage per second as regular (not quick) attack
  
• your starting damage is pretty low, so you need to find a better weapon or upgrade existing ones. There are 3 ways to do that:
  
  • Every level has a locked treasure room with good weapons. The good stuff is in the gold chests that require keys to open, and there's one or two on the first level. If you are low on keys (less than 3), use a bomb to break into the treasure room and save the keys for the chests.
    
  • Upgrade weapons with runestones. If the room with the bugs shows up, stomp and get as many as you can (mages can stomp too!). If you clear the level and have some extra bombs, blow random rocks to find the runestones. A couple of those can significantly boost your damage. If you get a squirrel pet, it will jump near a runestone, so you know which rocks to blast.
    
  • There are 1-3 shops on every level, and at least one shop has a good weapon on sale. Either save money to buy it or rob the shop. Learning how to rob a shop is important because it can give you access to powerful weapons early. The easiest way to do it is with a voodoo doll or with a bow and ice or slowdown arrows. The bows start to show up in the game once you unlock the archer hero, but you can use the freezing arrows with any character. Even at 30% archery, you can kill the shop guard with a default stack of 10 frozen arrows.
• learn how to use the voodoo doll. It makes boss fights easier (you can get them to hit themselves for high damage) and you can hurt tough enemies from a distance. To rob a shop with it, you can use a bomb to hurt the shop keeper with enough delay to go to the other side of the room before the guard comes out. This gives you enough time to activate and drop the voodoo doll and then stomp on it.
  
• read weapon descriptions carefully and don't be afraid to experiment. For example, the Lightning Sword can do about 400 damage to a boss with it's rage attack if you time it right.
  
• Knights can use magic staff special powers too. So if you see a magic staff, don't just ignore it if you're a melee character. You can poison your melee weapon (snake staff), increase melee damage (twilight staff), heal (strawberry staff, life staff, healer staff), get fire immunity (fireball staff), place turrets, etc.
