Fishing/Golden Salmon

I need some advice on the fishing mechanics. I'm in Legram, trying to ctach the Golden Salmon for a quest but it is totally impossible. No matter how fast I mash the buttons, the fishing meter always keeps going down too fast in the pauses between the input commands on screen. Thus I can't even come close to catch that damn fish. Is there a trick or a strategy to beat this minigame (preferably without pulling a muscle in the thumb)?

The trick is to lock fps to 30 I think (for some reason the fishing minigame is near impossible at high fps) and guess immediately what the next button will be in the sequence and keep pressing it so there is no downtime between prompts.

Strange... I caught it straight off first time first run; no changes to default game settings (ie changing FPS) and having done no fishing at all throughout the rest of the game... :S

There's no trick to it whatsoever. Other than locking the FPS to 30 or 60, is this the first time you've fished? Have you acquired any of the rods? You should be using your best rod.

It took some attempts, but then I managed to catch the Golden Salmon. I didn't realize that the fishing meter indicates which button to press next. After realizing that, it wasn't so difficult anymore. Also thank you for your advice.
