Link level 4 needs 3500 XP. Link level 5 needs 5250, or 1750 more than link level 4. At a maximum of 3 XP per battle, that's 584 battles, which is roughly how many battles there are in the entire game (your mileage may vary).
The best way to max out link XP is to carry over maximum bonding points into NG+, which lets you see everyone's events. That's where most of it comes from.
Link XP does not get carried over into the sequel.
it doesn't affect the sequel if i dont have a lvl 5 bond with someone
You have that a bit backwards. You don't need max link levels to see all events, seeing all events is what gets you to have max link levels. To see all events, you need to be on a New Game Plus run, and choose the "Unlimited/Maximum bonding points" option.
If you get your link level high enough with someone by near the end of CS 1, they will be eligible for a certain event. Them being eligible for the event will add a couple additional lines of dialogue into CS 2, if you carry your CS 1 clear save data over. That's it - a couple additional lines of dialogue. (And the one you actually chose for the CS 1 event gets a bonus to their link level.)
The main criteria for getting someone eligible is to see their event in Chapter **** Six **** and to have their link level at 5 by the time the event happens. There are other people with a little different criteria, but you said "no spoilers" so I'm not going to discuss that without permission.
There are battle benefits. too. For instance, if you get to link level 3 with Eliot, he can toss you a quick, low-level heal right after you get hit.
