Far more likely that it's a plothole created by Falcom's very bad and incongruent storytelling between games. The Cold Steel series is chockful of that crap, a couple of glaring examples include:
Spoilers for CS1 & CS2 in the rest of this post:
- Cold Steel 2 ends with everyone except Rean becoming drop-outs who left Thors after having only completed 50%/1 year out of their 2 year long program. Yet Cold Steel 3 retcons this point and pretends like they all graduated.
And if they did all graduate, then it's also still horrible writing anyway, because it contradicts the core premise of the game which is that Thors is the most prestigious school in Erebonia...but if they give out diplomas to people who only complete 50% of their program, then they would actually be a diploma mill which has no merit whatsoever.
And it's also horrible writing since Rean had to earn his diploma fair & square by doing his full 2 years, even though none of his classmates did. Why would Rean, the best & most important member of Class VII, be punished like that whilst his inferior class mates, who are in much greater need of additional education, are not?
And it's also horrible writing since if Class VII really loved each as much as they are constantly professing, then they wouldn't all (other than Rean) abandon the class after a year.
- All of the citizens of Erebonia saw Osbourne get shot to death on public television. Yet when he magically reappears, no one questions that or thinks it's strange or gives it any kind of second thought.
Instead, all the citizens just blindly accept this ludicrous situation of a dead man coming back to life as if everything is perfectly normal and there is nothing to see there.
Note: CS3 attempting to give an explanation for what happened to Osbourne in this incident still does not change this bad writing point one iota whatsoever. Because even if there is a "logical" explanation, the public still wouldn't know that, and so they would certainly be having mass hysteria in this situation, if the writing were good & believable & consistent...which it isn't.
How about you actually go buy the games and play them instead of spouting nonsensical lies and blatant hate for the games you haven't bought nor played in the forums? Do something productive. It's been three years already of you doing this exact same thing and you've still not moved on...
- After the Civil War, Class 7 (minus Rean) gets an special study program which will allow them to graduate in one year. They have the full support of the teachers in this, focus totally on crunch and have some of the smartest students (places 1,2,3, 5, 12, and 20 out of 100 in the midterms) in the school, so it's not at all implausible that they're able to do this.
- Rean isn't able to participate in this because the government has him running all over the place as the 'Ashen Chevalier, Hero of the Civil War' and in particular, has him assist with the invasion of Crossbell, with the argument that if he doesn't, the invasion will be much bloodier and the people of Crossbell will suffer much more.
- The Rest of Class 7 will leave Thors because they have other important things to do; Alisa helping get the Reinford Group back on track, Jusis becoming acting Duke of Kreuzen, Machias and Elliot going to the schools they really want to go to, etc. Being friends doesn't mean 'clinging together at all costs'.
-Osborne was shot. It was never clear if he was dead or not, and the Noble Alliance was keeping silent about the disappearance of his body as part of their war-propaganda. Also, there is no television in Erebonia; Class 7 is seeing the events in Heimdallr because of Vita's magic. Everyone else who wasn't there only has a confused radio report of the events, plus propaganda from the Noble Alliance.
-When Osborne returns, it is a simple matter to explain that his wounds weren't as bad as they looked like and that he was saved by 'the brave men and women of the imperial army/RMP/Intelligence division and taken to a secret location to heal and recover' or some such.
