How can I change the difficulty?

I'm aware that you can't change the difficulty after starting a new game. Whatever you pick, it's what you get. But at the same time, you can edit a Trails in the Sky save file with a hex editor and change the difficulty.

Does anyone know how to do that with a CS save file? I picked hard by mistake (I wanted to pick Nightmare) and the game feels easy to me, so I need a bigger challenge.

You can do this with a memory editor like Cheat Engine and an appropriate cheat table. Just save your game once the edit is complete.
