As for recipes, a lot of them are gained from npcs and the book shop in trista sells new ones each chapter (Be sure to read the books after you buy them).
Edit: You can catch any missed fish in the pond at Thors next to the Gymnasium.
Fishing is worth it , not as much as it is in SC but still worth it because the items you can buy from the fishing guy (forgot his name) are really good.
Recipes are pretty good too since they have these secondary effects on top of healing . Not to mention there are 2 sidequests with cooking both give you really good items at the end of it.
Note : Make sure to use school house time to catch up on your cooking since you can change characters there.
Many if not most of the recipes come from talking to NPCs rather than buying them.
Money hasn't been to easy to grind for with all the armor and weapons you can buy aswel.
You can trade a few U-Materials for Groundbait at Pawn Shops. But I prefer to save before fishing and get as many "new" fish as I can at a spot and reload if I get only duplicates.
Nah, you're right. You can only get them with u-material. For u-material, I agree that it's probably not worth it. The fishing you can already do is enough.
You might have to grind a bit if you want to be a completionist with the equipment but only then. In terms of just progressing through the game, you shouldn't have to grind at all. Class VII can pwn enemies fine without ideal equipment. I'd say about.....2 new weapons for the best attackers and 2 new armor for the characters that will be taking the most hits in each chapter is already comfortable. Well....maybe a little more if we're on nightmare.
As for money issues, there are two solutions: Egg omelet exploit and Scepter/Vein S-craft grinding. Those two are the most time efficient for mira related completionist stuff.
For fishing, since you are already in late game the best thing to do really is to just ignore it for now and grind u-materials whilst fishing when new spots come up. Then you can do the fishing in one hit back at Trista.
Both recipes and fishing reward you in this game for engaging with them. Most of these don't come about until endgame. They are not necessary for normal play though.
