Check out gamefaqs cold steel guide for fishing information. Generally though fishing is really simple in this game since every fish can be caught in Trista River or Pond in the final chapter. It may require Groundbait farming though.

On top of that, every free day the fishing spots in Trista reset to max so if you miss a fish on a field study you have plenty of chances to catch it later. For what rod to use for which fish, the fishing note in game gives a good visual indication with fish lower on the list requiring better fishing rods.

I was looking at that guide, but I caught a fish at a place that wasn't listed, not sure if it's because i'm on a ng or what.

Many of the fish can be caught in other locations but is reliant on RNG. The guide generally lists the first place the fish is available to be caught along with other possible locations the writer found them.

so is that what the rng stat does?

Anyway, you don't have to bother much with fishing. Just wait last chapter and fish in Trista river (or Academy pond) and you'll get all fishes you missed like this

RNG in this case means the game's random numbers generator. The Rng stat ingame stands for range and is indicative of a characters attack range.
I just fished at every spot I found and ended up with a 100% clear, no sweat. I always used the most up-to-date fishing rod in my possession as switching back to older ones never did me any good. I noticed there were always two fishing spots in field studies plus an extra spot on flooded floors of the old schoolhouse.

I just started chapter 2 and I'm 16/20, i'm just worried that I'm gonna miss something.

Do you get like super rare excessories for fishing in this game and or in the second cold steel at least. Cause one of my fav things about the fishing in SC is that you could get crimson eye and tiger heart in the first chapterm (and other really good accessories and healing items)

@Oguz Not from the fish themselves, but you can buy really nice things with the points from fishing once your fishing rank goes up.
@Zunymitshu Hold on to your groundbait for the final chapter, in the pond near the gymnasium you can catch any fish you might have missed miss through the chapters. (this is, I believe, true throughout the game, but in the final chapter they should all be there)

Yes and no. In both games fishing still does get you items and accessories, but none of which are as powerful. You do however get Angler points which you can trade for items, accessories and quartz depending on what rank you are. Some of these will be unique.

Getting super rare and/or powerful items, accessories and quartz early in the game is now delegated to a new Trade shop option. Essentially you trade items indicated to get better stuff, though to get them really early you will need to do quite a bit of grinding. What you can trade for is also dependent on game progression.

oh ok then. In the end its not too big of a loss I guess because I especially remember getting use out of the accessory you can buy from the guy early game (the one with the speed increase).
