The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

the game won't open anymore
I would enjoy playing a second time with the bonus elements gained from beating the game once. Of course this also means that reinstalling will make me loose the bonus elements.

When I open it it closes right away and there is no message of error or corruption.

If it can be of help, I purchased two months ago the second chapter of trails in the sky, and wanted to open it today for the first time and same thing. Even reinstalled it to no avail....

Run the VC Redists, verify cache. Also, saves aren't stored where the rest of the game is; reinstalling it will not affect them.

what is the VC redists verify cache? I try searching for it to no avail.

Redists: Steamapps/common/Trails of Cold Steel/_CommonRedist/vcredist

Verify Cache: Right click game in steam > properties > local files tab > verify integrity of game files

the integrity is 100% still no results... thats for the cache.

concerning the redist. I go to vcredist and I have a folder named 2010 and inside a .vdf (installscript) and a vcredist_x64, and a vcredist_x86

Yes, run both of them. Also go in _Commonredist/DirectX/Jun2010 and run DXSETUP.exe.

Okay, I repaired the two Vcredist, then updated the DXSETUP, but same problem... It closes after the window opens and then it syncs and closes definitely.

No luck...

I tried again with the redist and it says repaired. But it recommends me to update it but the link it gives (which supposedly gives information but does not at all) tells me nothing.

Have you checked in your nvidia or amd control panel and made sure the game is set to launch with your discreet GPU rather than iGPU? If it's trying to launch the game with older hardware that doesn't have the requisite features, the game won't run.

thanks it worked!

Glad we eventually figured it out. :)

How does one implement the nvidia solution above? I go into the nvidia control panel -> manage 3D settings -> Program Settings -> and when trying to select a program, I don't get Trails of Cold Steel II (or The Legend of Heroes...). Am I way off the mark here?

I've also looked into the VC redists option, and I don't have the \vcredists\ folder or even a \_CommonRedist\ folder. I do have that under Trails of Cold Steel (which runs perfectly fine) though those folders are empty.

When I attempt to launch from the configuration settings, I get a missing dll error, so I reinstalled as per https://steamcommunity.com/app/538680/discussions/0/1471967529575661077/, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

Any ideas?

You may need to add manually - select add: (it might show in the list at this point, but unhelpfully as ed8.exe) then navigate to the game location on your hdd/ssd and then add ed8.exe to the list then.

edit: if it's cold steel II you are having problems with, then the game exe is E:\Games\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Trails of Cold Steel II\bin\Win32\ed8_2_PC_US.exe (or ed8_2_PC_JP.exe for japanese)

Make sure that you have downloaded and installed both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the vcredist runtime.

Thanks a bunch for your help. Unfortunately, no cigar =(. To be clear, I select the program (nvidia control panel) and then select "High Performance NVIDIA Processor" correct? The other option is "Integrated Graphics," which is the default.
