The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

Anything missable?
Im not really fond of huge games with a ton of collectables but have them missable. But its something i just have to deal with.

Anyway, if nearly everything is missable, could you guys kindly just tell me some important stuff, like cool weapons or items that I should pay attention to?

Books are the easiest to miss. A particular novel series is handed out chapter by chapter by various NPCs throuhout the game, and is required to obtain an ultimate weapon. Recepies are also a must, since there are like, three high-end Quartz you can get that all pertain to fully filling out your recepie book.

There are also quests that can be missed that provide Academic Points; the higher your AP, the more bonuses you unlock. As well as quests that have to be completed a certain way to get the max-possible AP.

There's tons of missable stuff in the series as a whole.

The most important are the Red Moon books, which ultimately give you the ability to get the ultimate weapon for a character of your choosing. There are 2 others you can get per playthrough, but 1 of those is ALSO missable.

You can also miss maybe 30% of the side quests in the game.

WOW, how can they let ultimate weapon requirements be missable????

I remembered i missed something similar, maybe an ultimate weapon too in trails in the sky.
I was like >:( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can craft up to three ultimate weapons on your first playthrough. One is from collecting all Red Moon books, one is from completing three sets of accessories, and the final one is looking for three Zemurian Ore Shards in the Final Dungeon.

In NG+ you can also exchange 75 U-Materials for one Zemurian Ore Shard.

Aside from that, you also need to complete monster guide, recipes, and character notes for the achievements.

You can actually buy missible things (like books and recipies) at the Trista pawn shop. Granted they'll be a bit more costly, but it's worth it if you miss some things.

I missed a few chapters of the Red Moon series, and I was able to buy the ones that I missed later on.

I think the items are random, but if you've missed something, it'll appear at the pawn shop eventually.
That's good to know.
I already screwed up my chapter rankings.
I was awarded S rank on chapter 1 and 2, but chapter 3, A rank...

I'll be real with you, if you're going for a 100% completion on your first playthrough (or near 100%) you will either need to be straight up obsessive-compulsive with checking things or lightly consulting a guide (there are several good ones out there, this game has been out for years on Playstation).

The general rule in Trails games is "whenever something happnes, talk to every single NPC you can - twice." This obviously does not appeal to all people (even people who love the Trails games). Though if a quick check on a guide at the beginning of a chapter does not appeal to you ("Talk to this person after X, talk to this person before Y," etc.), none of the things you would miss are required anyway. Almost all of them are along the lines of a nice quartz or a decent accessory and as has been noted, you have access to the makings of 3 ultimate weapons in a first run (one of which is hard to miss). Even so, you don't need them; this game ain't that hard.

Basically, If you're cool with missing stuff just playthrough at your pace and have fun. If you're not, channel some OCD or cozy up to a guide. If you're not keen to either of those things, well... Cold Steel may be a problem.

At least the guide up on gamefaqs is mostly spoiler free apart from some tips on bosses from time to time that you can just ignore.
I talk to all the NPCs obsessively whenever I can. My problem is I missed some hidden AP points. I also had to retry the swimming race to win, so I may have lost AP points there too.

Nah you don't lose AP by retrying the swimming game. You can get the AP from trying as many times as you want, as long as you don't give up.

I'd say the worst offender is the midterms, since to get full AP you not only need to answer all the questions right, but must also speak to all the right NPCs/read certain books.

I usually play thru these type of games once and then go back thru a scond time using a guide to see what I missed. This way I can compare and see how much I was able to find on my own.

Some of this stuff is out of the way so no shame in not getting it on the first run... Unless of course you are seriously obsessive. =)

If you want all the NG+ stuff you'll need to clear it at least three times anyways. That gives you plenty of runs to do a 100% compete run.

This is a pretty dcent spoiler light guide:

My first playthrough is pretty solid. I missed ONE thing at mid-terms... and got an A-rank in Chapter 6 where I think I missed a quest since I missed an Imperial Chronicle.

I also only got 2 sets of things for Zemurian Ore. :(

But Final Chapter now so curious to see how it wraps-up.

@Zivi: I thought I could rerun a 2nd time to get everything, why 3?
