TF did Falcom do to orbment mechanics in this game?!
Why did they drop literally the best feature of Kiseki mechanics in Trails of Persona 3? I spent hours upon hours experimenting with different quartz setups in Sky, particularly the 3rd. This was literally the feature that set the series apart from other JRPG, whose idea was to drop it? I don't want social links and calendar, I've already played Persona 3, I want my OLD ORBMENT SYSTEEEM BAAAAHA HA HA HAAAACK <proceeds to roll on the floor crying like a toddler>

Nice port tho. Could use SMAA/FXAA support but besides the power hungry AA it runs perfectly.

Yeh I agree, it's quite disappointing that they went back to pretty much FF7-materia-system instead of the heavy customization you could do in previous games

But it's still alright. Just not as special.

I think most people would agree with the Cold Steel 1&2 orbment/quartz design being inferior to the Sky/Zero/Ao systems. Unfortunately, it seems like it's one of the design choices Falcom made when they designed the Cold Steel series with a younger target audience in mind.

I won't comment too much on the Persona 3 comparisons except to say P3 made you balance social interactions against the calendar of -everything-, whereas the Cold Steel restrictions are really just on the optional character interactions.

The Quartz choices do matter though not as much as Sky. The biggest thing is collecting rare Quartz that have spells + stats.

Building specific builds like a 100% evasion Fie or a speedy Mirage element nuker Emma is a must on Nightmare.

Actually, while I'm not sure Cold Steel's system is all that much of an improvement, I thought Sky's quartz system was a bit lacking.

There wasn't enough diversity in Sky's quartz types to actually make too many different builds possible. Any character that wanted to do damage needed the appropriate damage-up quartz equipped. Anyone wanting to do damage also couldn't equip the defense-up quartz, because that reduced damage. You had to equip speed up quartz on everybody, no matter what. Anyone who wanted to cast needed the casting time down quartz.

And high level magic is generally not worth wasting time slotting for anyway, as it's not cost effective because the game wasn't balanced correctly.

Each element only had a few different types of quartz, so there just wasn't all that much variety. And between the mandatory equips, and the locked slots also basically being mandatory equips, you didn't actually have much flexibility, and there wasn't THAT much interesting to put in there anyway.

it's unfortunate that we never got the one with the better orbment/quartz customization, as that never got officially localized (unless if you can read Mandarin)

You can reach 100% evasion? Is Falcom familiar with soft capping and hard capping a stat?

but given on how nightmare is in the beginning, it's not too bad, I remember needing evergreen or face constant misses in Sen 2 Nightmare
