First up I can give you good news that in the upcoming patch, I have fixed the extra keyboard/mouse issue you described - thankyou for finding that, it's super annoying.
As for your dpad issues we weren't able to reproduce this on our end. Are you using any extra programs for Input (DS4, InputMapper, etc) that might be remapping the controls? Apologies for the left stick being not perfect - we'll look into patching that in the future.
We've received a fair few comments about impossible cave levels. First of all, the levels are randomly generated (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKxL1Sg-XcI), rather than us deliberately making impossible levels, sometimes the random number generator rolls against you :) What you should find as you play more and become better at the game, is that some levels will seem impossible, but can be completed with a bit of skill. Other things that can help complete "harder" levels:
- Don't use the mouse (terrible I know, but the game controls were primarily designed for controller)
- Do small shots (don't push the analog stick all the way to the edge to adjust shot power)
- Shoot softly into and up angled slopes (up to about 30 degrees?) so the ball will come to rest so you can take the next shot easily
- Shoot hard into 45 degree angles - the spin will usually get you up onto platforms, and also arrest your speed (to prevent you from going off the edge)
And then yes sometimes they are just impossible (level too tall etc.) - you can always skip a round (options, then circle) - there is no penalty for this (scores stay the same) other than you can't earn achievements for that match anymore. There are also ways to generate different types of levels in the custom screen (e.g. chance of walls, ceiling, sparseness etc).
Hope this information helps.
Cheers,
Lindsay
i also noticed that after rounds there are toggle scoreboard and stats buttons, they look like they are mapped to up/down on dpad so do not work for me either.
i was using a mix of xbox one and 360 controllers i'll unplug the 360 dongle and give it another go tonight.
Thanks for the advice on the cave levels, yes we need to improve at the game a bit, we've only really played a few trials and quick game so far, its hard trying to get my friends to play anything other than pro evolution soccer.
Cheers.
Darran.
just to recap, dpad up/down goes left/right and left/right does nothing at all. I've just tested the controller with joy.cpl and the dpad is acting as it should.
Interesting that joy.cpl is reporting the correct actions! I assume you aren't witnessing this problem in other games with the wireless xbox one controller?
I believe that you can always use the keyboard's up/down/left/right in the menus, even if you have a controller plugged in, as a workaround.
Another horrible workaround is to use a 3rd party input mapper program to remap the buttons correctly.
Hope this helps, and let me know how you go!
360 dongle and gamepad only. Everything working.
360 dongle/gamepad plugged in 1st. xbone dongle/gamepad connected after. partygolf reverts to xbone controller for player 1. Not working.
Wired has the same dpad problem including the new white controller wired (and wireless), will test bluetooth on it later.
360dongle/gamepad connected. game started. xbone dongle connected, resynced (dunno if this was because it was previously wired). 360 retains player 1. Successful workaround :)
Game restarted straight after last test and xbone gamepad reverts back to player one. :(
360dongle/gamepad connected. xbone dongle connected. game started. xbone gamepad connected. 360 retains player 1.
So i can keep player 1 as 360 controller by connecting xbone pads after game started, which makes sense.
up and down with analogue stick seemed easier with wired connection. will have to check that out again. will also install steam on another computer and see if dpad works correctly.
So plugging in xbone controller after game started keeps player 1 with working 360 dpad which i wouldn't need as 360 analogue stick is fine for navigating menus :) wired xbone anlogue stick in menus seemed much better than wifi, which needs super precise up/down (once up or down is initiated free movement about the axis is fine till release) to navigate menu (will retest this)
I'll get Ian (programmer in charge of controllers) to test the xbone wirelessly (we didn't know you could do that until you told us lol).
Glad the 360 controller works, otherwise I'd be pulling out my hair in confusion. At least now you have a workaround to navigate our menus! :P
I guess the wireless/wired difference for the analogue stick makes sense - although if you haven't seen problems in other games with that stick it could just be that the system we use for input is treating wired/wireless as completely different device profiles.
Cheers,
Lindsay
I will change controller driver as the workaround, then i get to play with the newer gamepad :)
i'll reinstall windows in the new year. Hopefully if nobody else has this problem then its something to do with my current setup.
I'm also coming to the conclusion that the up/down issue in the menus is in my head, it didn't seem a problem when i just loaded it up.
cheers, happy christmas.
darran.
Have you tried using the dpad to navigate the menus? The stick isn't particularly great at navigating the menu's in Party Golf, although with a wired controller we haven't had problems as bad as what is described in this thread (somehow its possible the wireless xbox controllers aren't good at sending this signal through - although this problem should be present in other games too). It is hard for us to test without the wireless adapater in-house.
Let me know how you go with the dpad, and be sure to report if you have any up-down left-right issues as described by dazzza.
Cheers,
Lindsay
