how do i light things?

ive been playing it for a bit and i noticed after a while things like the campfire, firepit or furnace stopped burning producing no health benefits. is there a way to light things back up?

Yes. To fuel a fire, get wood/twigs/mucus/oily stuff, and pick them up in your inventory. Hover over the fire with that on the cursor, and it should bring up a + sign. That means you can use it on the fire, usually fueling it. The blue grass (green herbs) that spawn a lot in the snowy area can be used on a fire to make dry herbs for rope without going to the desert to pick them!

This was confusing for me as well. Not very intuitive if you ask me, and also rather slow to do (open inventory, drag item, close inventory). Why not let you select it in the toolbar and use it with left click or "e" like chopping trees / attacking with sword?
