Navy Island Confidential : Part 1

Oct 5

I am thrilled to announce that Part 1 of my game is officially releasing this October 15!

After a year and a half of hard work, I poured my heart and soul into this project to deliver a solo-developed indie game that punches well above its weight:

A love letter to old-school point-and-click games—chill, full of good vibes and humor!
Colorful, charming visuals and art direction
A funny yet genuinely engaging story with memorable characters
A polished original soundtrack and dedicated sound design
Using modern tools not to churn out "AI slop," but to deliver high-quality content at an affordable price

Why a Part 1?

I'll admit it: I dreamed big, and I chose quality over quantity. Sure, you'll only get a few hours of gameplay and a desperate craving for what comes next (fair warning: I didn't hold back on the theatrical cliffhanger!).

The reality is that building this solo was a massive undertaking. Before moving forward, I was determined to put something solid out there, even if it meant splitting it into a Part 2—which, if all goes well, should land in mid-2027!

I really didn't want to go the Early Access route or release an unfinished game, which is why an episodic format felt right. I truly hope you enjoy it!

I refuse to compromise on quality.

A note on AI:

I consider myself one of those developers driven by the love of making games people actually want to play, not by quick cash. At no point did I use AI to do the work for me or as lazy filler.

At a time when many "devs" chase easy money by flooding the market with low-effort clones, I believe these tools can help small studios and solo devs expand their creative vision while keeping the artistic craft fully intact.

Aside from audio processing and a few assets, everything is handcrafted!

Navy Island Confidential - Beta 0.3 Release Notes

Version 0.3

Gameplay:

Pathfinding: I’ve fixed a few pathfinding issues that could occasionally get the player stuck. My apologies if you encountered this—it’s now resolved!

Save System: The save system has been completely overhauled. Consequently, old save files are no longer compatible, but this change ensures there will be no issues with future updates.
NPCs: Non-player characters now feature animations during dialogue and move around the world correctly.

Bug Fixes:

Guidance: Added new dialogue lines to ensure the story flows smoothly and the player is better guided through the experience.

Camera: Fixed an issue where the camera would lock up during certain events.
Miscellaneous: Various other minor bugs have been squashed.

What’s Next?

This is the final patch for the Alpha version, which should now be stable. The demo will remain available for free, and I hope it offers enough content for you to enjoy the game and get a feel for what’s coming in the future.

Expect about 1 to 2 hours of gameplay and, hopefully, a few good laughs!

Optimization is terrible...

I will never understand releasing a demo so early without it being properly optimized. I was getting around 34 fps in 4k resolution using an RTX4080 with my pc fans all racing extremely high. No graphic options either. And you see... you lost me. Because all I'm going to do is uninstall this unoptimized demo and ignore the game....

Week 17

My demo has been online since December 15th, and I already have some stats. And they are very welcome, because I’ve been feeling quite drained… My finances are at an all-time low, and I haven't really made "progress" on the game—lots of polish, debugging, and admin work, but fundamentally, no new ground covered. The demo still only has 15 minutes of gameplay, and I would have liked more for the Alpha. And there’s another problem: when you carry a project, the truth is… you are alone. Regardless...

Week 16

I’m working on a few features I want to integrate quickly into my demo: Settings, the logbook, and a save system. But before that, I got feedback on the Steam Hub: a player complaining about poor performance at 4K resolution. After a quick investigation, I found the culprit: Real-time Global Illumination, and more generally, Screen Space effects. A very (VERY) simplified explanation: To achieve a high-quality look, my project uses Deferred Rendering in HDRP and utilizes the G-Buffer. Rendering informat...
