The setting of the game is the most interesting bit in my mind even if it could have been exploited much better creating a more consistent story line etc.
The game is a grindy collectathon the way I see it... A lot of collectibles and a lot of robots!
But that might be because it was a console ONLY game for a long time. The PC version is technically a PORT, but i would love to have some sort of texture pack to improve some of the weaker textures.
The lighting/colours seems to be a lot more washed out compared to the promotional clips and art. Apparently the definitive edition has "better lighting" but basically smooths out all the lighting so theres no hard shadows, which you would think would be an improvement, but it really flattens stuff.
The mechanical textures are fantastic, the character gear is fantastic, the faces look.. weird, like they have no textures.
I think the problem is it cant decide if it wants to have a cartoony aesthetic like Boarderlands or a more junky scifi look like Fallout
Give it credit, for its age the mechanical stuff hold up! the texture work is mint! The more natural elements have a bit more trouble keeping up. With things like weird outside level design for a character with a grapple hook.
UI
its a bit clunky or slow to react in places, especially in the corebot upgrade department.
But again this is an old game, and its designed around a console.
Its fun to play, if you remember its age.
Its gets more fun when you start getting more bots. I recommend riding the story marker till you get the second core bot. Then everything else will Play well. especially since you can go back and forth over the levels collecting everything.
It's a bit dated even for last gen, fun adventure game though. Dungeons, silly robits, mecha and exploration.
Think of Mega Man Legends and play it, just imagine it was the next Rockman Dash and got turned into ReCore.
I don't think it's "bad", but at the same time it's not as good as many other games from the same genre.
Combat starts ok, but gets repetitive very quickly. You don't unlock new skills or whatever, you just shoot and use the core bots to attack all the time. Impacts and hitboxes aren't very good. The platform part is the one I enjoyed the most, even though it's not really precise.
Everything else feels like it needed a bit more care from the people who made the game.
The environment are really repetitive: outside is always a desert, the inside of dungeons is always the same with very few variations. The story is not strong enough. Unlike many other games, it's hard to paint a description of the protagonist, and the game barely tells you what is going on and why stuff happened. Graphics are not impressive at all, even for a 2016 game, and the few human characters that are in the game look like they're from a way older game. With maxed settings and a 1600p resolution (yes, it's a weird one, but it is supported) it still manages to look nice, but that's it.
TLDR: I had fun playing with it, but it has too many flaws and it doesn't leave a mark on the player.
