Cannot start the game - "Steam Is Not Running"

Hello. As the title suggests I am having issues with starting the game. Each time I start it, GameGuard does all its checks and my antivirus (Avira Free) says that it has blocked the access to the hosts file. Afterwards, an error shows up: "Steam Is Not Running (SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() failed)."

I have tried doing the following:

- Disabling the antivirus. The first issue doesn't show up for obvious reasons but Steam is still detected as not running.
- Uncheck the two options in DMO's properties through Steam (which are regarding the usage of some Steam based services). The error still happens.
- Restarted Steam and my PC to no avail.

Any way I could solve this? Thank you.

Issue solved. All I had to do was to give Steam admin permissions!

If you don't know how to do this:

1. Locate steam.exe in your computer.
2. Right click, Properties.
3. Compatibility tab.
4. Check "Run as administrator".

i'm having a similar problem. i just tried this and it began to run and update but the message still repeated afterward. got anything to help?

Is your issue the exact same? (same error message?)
You can always try Library > DMO > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files
Try that and see if it works.

You can also just right click steam and select "run as administrator."

well, my situation is similar however it doesn't pop up with anything but I tried clicking on the steam app several times it tried loading but it wouldn't work. does anyone have a solution?

Try this:

Go to Task Manager and end the Task: Steam Client Bootstrap and then enable admin for Steam and then you should see a login screen, log in and run the game and it should work, if it doesn’t let me know
