Can I insult you for several things now? Y'know because 'freedom of speech'. I already figured the answer is no.
This community is extremely toxic and this behaviour only promotes it. According to ToS causing 'discomfort' to someone can get you a 3 day ban. If you value being 'allowed' to be an uncultured savage and insult someone because hurrdurr freedom of speech enough to accept a ban then go ahead, do it.
Even if it were an extreme case you could still block the person, but this 'insult' is something considered pretty tame as per every single standard out there.
Yep, you're right. Most buzzards are actually pretty cool birds if you ask me. However, this guy with his freedom of speech nonsense to justify insulting annoyed me more and we all know how special brazilians are.
It's more a waste of the staff's time than anything else. If it had been any sort of intolerant, racist or type of derogatory language I'd be all in support of action being taken; but in this specific case it's more a matter of personal interpretation than anything else.
He may take offense to being called a buzzard, but I feel it wouldn't be disimilar to me taking offense to being called a mongoose, both of which are beyond silly. Seems like a very arbitrary thing to be offended about.
And honestly, I can't figure out what part of it is meant to be racist.
Savage is a racial slur, please excuse and educate yourself.
If being uncultured is a bad thing maybe you need to look inwardly at your own prejudices against uncolonised countries.
"Uncultured savage," is akin to calling him a Native American or an Australian Aboriginal.
Funny how that works hmm.
Yes, you have the right to call anyone anything, but that does not make you free from social consequence.
What can and can't be considered, "discomfoting" ...? That's the issue, and should rules really be so vague? You never know what will set someone off. Quick bants between two buds might be super hurtful to an onlooker. Just keep to party chat, and block. Easy solution. If you want to use general chat then you've gotta accept that you might see ♥♥♥♥ you don't like. Cultural norms are different everywhere. aka being called buzzard might be offensive, so block the person that did it. Obscure words shouldn't be on some list like they are on Neopets, it's just restrictive and alienates people looking to be social.
I just started playing and an anti-bullying PSA flashed on my screen, that's what I'd call coddling. Hoy.
A savage is not a racial slur. It does have a racist meaning in the language per definition because americans called native americans savages in the past but that is not relevant. There are a lot of definitions for the word savage in the english language. Furthermore calling a person who thinks he can just insult people because he's protected by a law he does not properly understand a savage does not make it a racial slur. I am not referring to indians or aboriginals with this.
Please get your fake PC social justice warrior nonsense out of here.
He gave no special meaning to the word savage other than it's most basic meaning; while you're making a comparison that essentially suggests you consider these two civilized peoples "uncultured savages". Something they're not, and have never been (at least not more than the "original" whites).
In fact, Native Americans may have not been as technologically advanced as the European whites, but they were the exact opposite of savages. Most tribes with a few exceptions valued human lives far more. It was never a habit of Native American tribes to exterminate other tribes, which they had a preference for defeating and then assimilating with the least amount of deaths possible.
There are records of fights between tribes that ended with truces after a single warrior of one of the tribes died, which was seen as a tragedy and something to mourn deeply. I would hardly call these people "savage", and uncultured is also something I'd not associate with them as they did in fact have a culture and laws, in many aspects more advanced than the European whites.
I do believe "uncultured savages" refers to people who have no laws, no hierarchy and absolutely no culture. These don't apply to Native Americans nor Aussie Aboriginals.
